Elden Ring’s big silly jellyfish summon is my friend
Elden Ring doesn’t make players wait too long before it dishes out a couple of essential tools: the spectral steed Torrent, and the ability to summon other spectral allies in combat. It’s very satisfying to ring a bell and see a pack of ghostly wolves appear to rip my enemies apart. But there’s one big goofy summon I much prefer, even if I’m not actually sure if it’s more efficient. That’s the jellyfish, because he is my friend.
Once I reached the Gatefront Ruins I ran along the hills up to a castle. Dodging an enormous the whole way I encountered Roderika, a young girl. Her men had come to her Lands Between for help, but they were all delimbed. She saw that her entire party had been taken into the chrysalis. She’s trying to work up the nerve for the same fate. Hey, lady, I didn’t come here to hear your life story! After chatting with her for awhile, she finally gave me my jellyfish summon. I affectionately named Bubbles. Bubbles has been my best friend, since then.
A moon witch was kind enough to give me a Summoning Bell, which I can use to call any Spirit Ash, like the wolves — who are Fine — or my boy Bubbles. I pull out my bell, give it the ol’ tinkle-tinkle, and Bubbles rocks up to the party. Jellyfish are much politer than the wolves, who jump, gnash, and circle their prey. He benignly floats along, and sometimes my enemies don’t even seem to notice he’s there even after our blades clash.
My jellyfish buddy then sprays out some red ink. The ink does not cause any damage, but it is more of an irritation than anything. But that’s why I love it. It doesn’t look threatening — but then it makes all of the difference. After getting slain 12 times by a particularly irritating goon, he left me with my jellyfish friend. As spear guy came at me, and I managed to deflect his spear, I was able to enjoy a brief respite while Bubbles gave him the good stuff.
Every time Bubbles attacks a guy, it doesn’t look particularly painful. However, the enemies seem confused and a bit confused. They move forward and shake it off. Other times, they seem to decide they’ve had enough, and actively run over to beat Bubbles’ giant amorphous ass. They are now ready for counterattack.
Did I make any significant progress on the game? No. Are I able to feel my skills improving? It’s not. It’s just me and Bubbles out here, baby, and we’re gonna go beat the Tree Sentinel up.
