EA To Remove Russian Teams From NHL 22 And FIFA 22

Video game industry giants are taking down the sports teams of aggressor countries from their games in a response to Russia’s attack on Ukraine. The move is an act of solidarity with other organizations aiming to denounce the recent military action. Specifically, in a pair of tweets, EA has announced it will remove Russian and Belarusian teams from the most recent versions of its popular sports franchises, FIFA and NHL 22.

Following in the footsteps of real-world sports organizations FIFA, UEFA, and IIHF in the suspension of Russian and Belarusian national teams and clubs, EA will remove these teams from their games as well in the coming days and weeks. EA Sports announced via Twitter that it has begun processes to expel the Russian national football team from all FIFA 22 and FIFA Mobile products. Additionally, we are actively considering changes that could be made to our other games. The same goes for the hockey franchise NHL 22 which will be trimmed of its teams representing both Russia and Belarus.

EA Sports is in solidarity with Ukrainians and, as so many others across football, demands that the invasion be stopped,” the FIFA account announcement read. The EA Sports NHL account also shared the sentiment. In the coming weeks, teams are expected to be expelled. EA has stated that it will provide additional updates on the matter as they become available.
