Dune: Spice Wars Enters Early Access Later This Month, Fremen Will Be The Fourth Playable Faction
Shiro Games and Funcom have announced Dune: Spice Wars will be entering Early Access at the end of the month, once again embroiling the planet of Arrakis in a resource war starting on April 26.
On the Dune: Spice Wars website, an Early Access date was revealed along with the unveiling of the Fremen as the fourth playable faction. This post includes a quote by Sebastien Videl, CEO of Shiro Gaming. He says, “With so many massive Dune fans in the studio, the excitement I see every day of working with this universe is very real, and we hope this comes across in the game. All this enthusiasm for the source material, as well as all the experience we gained making Northgard, makes it possible to look forward to putting this game in the hands of players.
As for the addition of the Fremen to Spice Wars, this marks the first time the now Arrakis-natives will be a main playable faction in any Dune strategy game to date. Lietkynes leads the Fremen. As a planetologist, she holds two allegiances: to her people and to the emperor. Her faction is more friendly with harsh deserts in Arrakis than feuding families and smugglers she will be fighting against. Fremen are able to move further in the sands without becoming exhausted or attracted by large sandworms. They are adept at stealthy and guerilla tactics, and they can ally themselves with neutral territories.

Funcom’s Dune properties are being used in the development of Spice Wars. Publisher Funcom is also teaming up with Nukklear from Germany to create an open-world multiplayer survival game in Dune.
Dune Spice Wars will be available for you to play later this month, when Early Access is on PC via Steam.
