Dune Is Getting An Open World MMO
Dune Awakening’s announcement was made today at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live. Although there aren’t many details, the trailer showed that the game is an open-world MMO. There’s also a beta sign up available.
This trailer gives us very little information about the game. While narration waxes poetical about conquering fear, the trailer features a character gazing into a vast desert. Then, a giant sandworm comes forth from the ground below and our character jumps down to face the gigantic beast. You can see the trailer here.
The trailer was brief, but a post-event press release revealed much. Let’s see what the press release had to say.
Dune Awakening is a survival game that combines creativity with social interaction to produce an ambitious Open World Survival MMO. You can rise from survival to supremacy in an open world Arrakis that is shared with thousands of players.
You can explore unmapped regions and find riches and hidden secrets. You can narrowly escape the colossal Sandworms. Build your own home, from shelter to strong base, and travel the dunes using iconic vehicles from all over the universe.
Find the spice blossoms, deploy your harvester and defend it against rival factions. Fast-paced combat shifts effortlessly from armored groundcars into ornithopters up in the air, resulting in deadly, fast-paced battles. You can plot your rise and increase your power within Landsraad by careful intrigue.
Dune Awakening doesn’t have to be the only one following last year’s huge blockbuster Dune adaptation. Back in April, Dune: Spice Wars, a real-time strategy game, was released.
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S are expected to awaken.
