Dragon’s Dogma 2 Has Been Announced A Decade After Its Predecessor’s Release

Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma tenth-anniversary celebrations have seen a sequel finally revealed. Officially, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has been announced and will be released in 2023.

As part of a commemorative video presentation, the announcement took place. Hideaki Itsuno (the game’s director) and two members of his dev team announced the game by zipping up their hoodies at the end. This revealed the title “Dragon’s Dogma II.” The video was closed with a brief animation that showed the official logo.

Itsuno gave a glimpse back on Dragon’s Dogma development before making the announcement. It’s a fascinating look at the director and his inspirations in fighting games like Street Fighter and melding that kind of flexible combat system with an expansive RPG story and gameplay. He also goes into the creation of the pawn system and wanting to make a single-player RPG that felt like playing with your friends online. This mini-documentary is well worth the effort.

There’s no date for Dragon’s Dogma 2, or any footage of the game yet, but having it in development is a huge step forward for the series after all this time.
