Destiny 2’s much-discussed Divinity Exotic getting nerfed next season

Bungie published an enormous blog post following a couple of weeks worth of small updates. Destiny 2On Thursday. It contains extensive information on upcoming weapons and balance changes and is quite long.

For our purposes here, we’re mainly going to be discussing the Exotic changes coming in season 19 (coming Dec. 6) and beyond. Specifically, let’s talk about the changes coming to Destiny 2’s most controversial weapon: Divinity.

In the blog post, Bungie revealed that Divinity — which weakens enemies, causing them to take more damage, and creates a massive crit spot on their body — will now only offer a 15% debuff on targets, down from 30%. This is a substantial nerf and will allow players to access other debuffs that they have not used for many years.

The nerf is coming a month after some controversy surrounding the weapon in Destiny. Saltagreppo (three-time first world raider), was killed in September. tweeted a thread about Divinity, essentially complaining that the weapon has felt mandatory for nearly three years, since it was added to the game with Shadowkeep’s Garden of Salvation raid.

It caused quite a stir within the Destiny Community. Some people agreed the weapon had to be nerfed. Others called Saltagreppo an elite player who wanted the game to become more challenging for non-streamers. However, while some might blame the conversation Saltagreppo spawned around Divinity for this nerf, Bungie claims it’s been testing a fix for months.

The nerf adds a little more variety overall. Destiny 2’s raiding scene, which has gotten stale after years of using Divinity.

Bungie stated that the season 19 will bring 26 Exotics changes, some of which are substantial while others have only minor adjustments. Studio is currently looking to improve both Champion’s functionality and add subclass 3.0 verbs for more Exotics.

Bungie made an indirect nod to the next raid in the blog posting. Destiny 2. One of the questions in the post alludes to what Bungie would do if the reprised raid either didn’t have an Exotic tied to it or if the original raid Exotic had already been added into Destiny 2 — Bungie claimed that they would just make an Exotic that matched the themes of the raid.

This question suggests that Bungie is toying around with bringing Wrath of the Machine — the fourth and final original Destiny raid — to Destiny 2Next year. Wrath of the Machine’s original raid Exotic was Outbreak Prime, which Bungie reprised in Destiny 2Outbreak was perfected back at 2019 Wrath of the Machine has the most Exotic Destiny raid. Destiny 2It doesn’t include the raid, making this an obvious hint. The only other raids that didn’t launch with an Exotic at all were the original Destiny 2Leviathan raid lairs, Eater of Worlds or Spire of Stars

Adept raid weapon reveal was the last big news in this blog post. They only drop off the Hyper-Difficult Master edition of raid. Bungie intends to make these weapons more interesting than the crafting versions. Start in LightfallAdept raid weapon drops will have enhanced perks. However, Bungie was clear that players still won’t be able to craft Adept weapons. Studio promised more details about the Adept system. Lightfall’s Feb. 28, 2023, date release.

If you’d like to see the answers to the rest of Bungie’s questions, we recommend setting aside some time and reading the full blog.
