Destiny 2: The Witch Queen trailer details new Exotics, weapon crafting
Destiny 2: Witch Queen is only a few weeks away, and Bungie is finally starting to unveil some of the expansion’s many upcoming mysteries. The upcoming weapon crafting system is one such secret that Bungie has not spoken of. A short teaser video was released by the studio on Tuesday showing weapon crafting, as well as new Exotic weapons that will be added to the game’s arsenal on February 22.
This teaser trailer opens with a voiceover by Savathun asking questions about the Relic on Mars. Players will be able customize their weapons with various perks by using the Relic, which is the new forge.
This trailer shows what appears to be a brand new Scout rifle that the player has built. Some fancy graphics show the player selecting their preferred damage, muzzle, magazine, and masterwork perks — denoting that Guardians will be able to craft their ideal version of each weapon and regularly swap their perks.
While we do get to see some of the Relic animations for building a new weapon, the trailer doesn’t detail how the system works. GameInformer has a new interview. The Witch Queen James Tsai, the creative director of the system, confirmed that weapons will be required to allow players to customize their weapon. The system will also involve some crafting materials, although based on a conversation Polygon had with game director Joe Blackburn last year, it’s likely these materials will be new items.
The trailer’s remainder is dedicated to an assortment of Exotics that are coming in The Witch QueenHere’s a quick description of each one:
- Grand Overture (Machine Gun) — Slug launcher charges full auto missiles
- Parasite (Grenade Launcher) — Worm launcher with increasing damage
- Osteo Striga (Submachine Gun) — Swarming projectiles trigger a toxic burst
- Edge of Action (Titan Glaive) — Place protective shield
- Edge of Intent (Warlock Glaive) — Deploy healing turret
- Edge of Concurrence (Hunter Glaive) — Tracking chain lightning
- Hoarfrost-Z (Titan chest) — Stasis wall replaces Barricade
- Osmiomancy (Warlock gloves) — Additional Coldsnap with enhanced seeking
- Blight Ranger (Hunter helmet) — Reflected projectiles deal increased damage
Every weapon and armor part gets its moment in the trailer. This allows you to see at least a portion of their capabilities. Although the weapon’s capabilities are far greater than what Bungie is able to communicate through the trailer, it should still give players an idea of the possibilities.
It’s currently unclear if this trailer showcases all of the upcoming Exotics in Destiny2: The Witch King Or if they are still keeping some. Bungie has shown off raid exclusive Exotics like 1000 Voices in trailers before, so it’s possible Parasite could be from the upcoming expansion’s pinnacle endgame activity.
This will be the last time players see Exotics before they unlock them on February 22.
