What to expect from Destiny 2’s Root of Nightmares raid

Bungie was largely reticent about what Root of Nightmares would bring. Here’s the official description:

A haunting presence was detected in the soil, which is believed to have been ferried from an unknown place and time. The ancient menace growing around our door is now being confronted.

That sure does narrow things down.

The text appears alongside one piece of key art that shows six guardians gazing into a cloudy, void-like void with strong resemblances to the Scariest Planet from Outer Wilds. (See pic at top of post. The cryptic nature of Bungie’s reveal has naturally caused some fans to speculate. You can find out more about Bungie’s reveal here. You must know, data miners and leakers have revealed info about what’s apparently in Root of Nightmares, but we’re not sharing the particulars here. This would be a complete waste of time.

How to prepare for Destiny 2’s Root of Nightmares raid

Like with everything Destiny 2Root of Nightmares raids are a six-person event. Before starting, you should at the very least ensure your fireteam is all at Power level 1800 — the current Powerful cap for Lightfall — though it couldn’t hurt to aim for the Pinnacle cap of 1810. We’d also recommend beating Lightfall’s Legendary campaign.

Root of Nightmares is available for the first 48 hours feature contest modeThis is where teams race to the finish line first. Contest mode used to be a 24-hour period, but Bungie now has it. increased the windowTo compensate for connection issues that may occur in 2022. (Lightfall’s rollout has generally been smooth, with reported login times of less than 30 minutes on launch day. This is a great achievement considering it breaks the Steam concurrents records!
