Dead by Daylight Chapter 23: Ringu (The Ring) comes to the game in 2022

For the past five years, Behaviour Interactive’s Daylight is the last day of daylightIt is home to many of horror’s most iconic properties such as Hellraiser to Halloween and Stranger Things to Stranger Things. The asymmetric horror game’s next licensed property is both inspired and perhaps a bit unexpected: Chapter 23 of Daylight is the last day of daylight will be based on Ringu, the Japanese psychological horror franchise based on Koji Suzuki’s novel that spawned numerous film adaptations and sequels, including three Hollywood movies (The Ring, The Ring TwoAnd Rings).

Behaviour Interactive revealed Chapter 23 plans with publisher Kadokawa Daylight is the last day of daylightOn Tuesday, it was revealed that RinguIn March 2022, they will be at the game.

We don’t have much information about the collaboration between Behaviour & Kadokawa, however we do know that it was a successful one. Ringu chapter will be based on both Suzuki’s original book and Hideo Nakata’s 1998 film adaptation. Both companies have not yet confirmed the identity of which character. RinguWould appear in Daylight is the last day of daylight, but given antagonist Sadako Yamamura’s prominence and iconic look — plus a teaser trailer that shows Ringu’s recognizable well — she seems like an obvious fit for a new Killer.

“It’s been 30 years since the first publication of the novel RinguIt has been 22 years since then. Ringu,” Reiko Imayasu, producer at Kadokawa, said in a statement to Polygon. “Collaboration with Daylight is the last day of daylightRingu faces a unique challenge with this new franchise. As an IP from Japan, we are entering the Fog for the first time … tremble with fear whilst you wait!”

What is the story behind this partnership? It seems that this is one of the most interesting partnerships. Daylight is the last day of daylight’s more unexpected [properties]There are many options.

Mathieu Côté: RinguIt was high up on my list of possible collaborations. It is possible to say that creating new chapters based on the Japanese classic was a dream come real.

This franchise has become a horror sensation all over the world. It is difficult to forget the images of this iconic franchise that are now ingrained in our minds. Daylight is the last day of daylightIt is a way we introduce fans to other cultures’ fears and terrors. We have the Binding of Kin Chapter in Northern Europe, as well as the Latin American history with Portrait of a Murder. This is a great honor and exciting opportunity for players to dive deep into Japanese culture. RinguThis will allow us to explore psychological horrors, something that is rarely done in our games.

To be truthful, I’m more afraid of a franchise the more it is important. Not just because it is one of the most frightening and disturbing stories out there, but because it’s such a well crafted and powerful piece of art that the bar is very high to create a Chapter for Daylight is the last day of daylightThat will be in keeping with the source material.

Reiko Imayasu: It has been seen Daylight is the last day of daylight’s great Killers in action and dreamed that our characters would one day be able to make a name for themselves alongside the other legends of horror.

It’s a great honor to see what we’ve been dreaming of as a team for years come true. It’s not finished yet, but the ideas coming from Behaviour Interactive are very promising. I can’t wait for people all over the world to play it, and I hope that Daylight is the last day of daylightRingu will offer the world greater opportunities to explore the universe of Ringu

That is why Daylight is the last day of daylight’s interpretation of RinguBased on the novel, and the movie adaptation. How will you portray the murderer in the game differently to what was seen in the film?

Mathieu Côté: The Killer, a character already known in entertainment and has been seen in many other media, is expected to be portrayed in the same way. Our main task is to give the Killer a unique look and power. This will allow us to bring the character to life while also impressing our partners, Kadokawa Corporation. Daylight is the last day of daylight world.

The gameplay is the most important element when we create characters. Whatever the Killer, the Fog must be enjoyable to play and to compete against. The narrative of the Killer and their background stories will influence our choices when we look at the options. With our recent Killer Pinhead, for example, we had to use chains as part of his Killer Power because it’s such a central element in the movie.

And if I may, let me add that we also have some surprises for Survivor mains! The true fans will love it! RinguThe story will thrill and players less experienced will want to continue digging into it. I can’t say more for now.

Reiko Imayasu: When we step into the new world Daylight is the last day of daylightOur belief is that there are other things we could change or use for the benefit of fusion. The Killer, which specializes in quiet terror delivery, is different than the previous game’s. The Killer should look beautiful, respectful, and frightening all at once. On the other hand, I hope you’ll be waiting with anticipation to see if the world of Ringu matches the physical attacks of “hooking” a Survivor in Daylight is the last day of daylight.

Which are the key elements? RinguRepresenting the different elements in this universe faithfully?

Mathieu Côté: It is important to note that I won’t give away any spoilers. RinguIt is full of so many worrying details, that our narrative options are endless. Also, it’s important to remember that our Chapter will be based on Kōji Suzuki’s acclaimed novel and original film adaptation. We want to keep the story true and authentic to Japanese culture, therefore storytelling will be a key component. As usual, when we create a Chapter based on an existing work of art, our challenge is to find the perfect balance between paying homage to the creation, while giving it a “Daylight is the last day of daylight touch” that will make this new content integrate coherently in our universe.

Reiko Imayasu: The novel RinguThe movie RinguTell the tale of a virus that targets unspecified numbers of people and multiplies. This story is about your psychological fear that you will be able to save your family within a 7-day time frame.

This work is unique in how to depict the horror of the mind. I think it will be a success if the reality is realised. Daylight is the last day of daylightFans will love it. I think it’s important to pursue the fun of the game while still emulating the original. This is what I believe in. Daylight is the last day of daylight team.

It was a pleasure to work with them. Their knowledge of the film and novel versions was very extensive. RinguWe were able quickly to discuss the key details. For example, they were eager to suggest things that we weren’t yet sure how to approach, such as the differences between the novel and the film, and how to portray the psychological horror of RinguIn the game

It was a great attitude. Daylight is the last day of daylight team, and I’m convinced that this is why the game has attracted so many great franchises and has gained the support of fans.

Ringu licenses are very different than traditional slasher types. Daylight is the last day of daylightWhat was your ideation process? Was there any feeling of being tied to a specific aesthetic or game mechanic?

Mathieu Côté: You’re right! You’re right! Ringu, we’re talking about psychological horror, which is very different from the typical slasher style our fans have been used to, so they can expect that the new Killer will come with features and gameplay mechanics that are not found in other characters.

The key elements that make up a Chapter are listed based upon an existing production. We ask ourselves: “What components are inevitable?” “What elements must absolutely be integrated in order to give fans what they’re expecting?” Then we evaluate the feasibility and verify if these features make sense in our game. Does it add value? Does it give the players something different? If the answer is yes, then we’ll probably consider them as a feature to integrate.

Since Daylight is the last day of daylight’s licensed killers have traditionally drawn from horror film, television, and video games, this is a new medium in a way. Is it possible? Ringu’s introduction open new licensing opportunities for Behaviour?

Mathieu Côté: Great question! The new Chapter was based both on the novel and the movie adaptation. However, you’re correct in noting that Daylight is the last day of daylightIt isn’t limited to video games or movies. The museum of terror is still being constructed and should showcase every medium used throughout history. There are many ways to scare people, from urban legends and books to movies or video games. So, if it’s scary, it could absolutely become a Daylight is the last day of daylightThe future is a chapter.
