D&D will revive Planescape setting in 2023, check out the new roadmap
Dungeons & Dragons used a Tuesday press conference to tease a packed release schedule, which includes the return of the Planescape campaign setting in fall 2023. Wizards of the Coast gave the beloved setting the same treatment it received in 1994. Spelljammer – Adventures in SpaceThis three-book book slipcase includes an adventure campaign, setting guide, bestiary and bestiary.
The classic PC game’s setting Tor: Planescape, Planescape digs into D&D’s deep cosmology by allowing players to hop between different planes. These include other traditional D&D settings on the Material Planes, the Inner Planes, which represent elemental forces, and the Outer Planes ruled by gods, angels and demons.
The hub for interplanar traveling is the city of Sigil. However, it’s also a complex setting filled with complicated factions and a mystery ruler named Lady of Pain. The 15 factions are similar in that they share a common philosophy about the meaning and purpose of life. Players can join any of them. The Society of Sensation, for example, believes that experiences are the best way to achieve enlightenment. To store memories, members use magic to make them available for others. They are the Harmonium police Sigil, believing that they have to rule every reality in order for peace and stability.
While the fiendish tieflings, celestial-touched aasimar, and elementally aspected genasi have become staples in D&D, they were first introduced in Planescape as “planetouched” people. Planescape’s return was teased in a July Unearthed Arcana released that included glitchlings. A new option to play as a player similar to rogue Modrons. Modrons in Planescape are constructeds that enforce rules and order from Mechanus’ Clockwork Nirvana of Mechanus. Glitchlings can start gathering information on planes that could be brought back to Mechanus. But some Glitchlings love the freedom of traveling alone.
