DC Unveils DCU’s First Chapter: Gods And Monsters, Consists Of 10 Movie And TV Projects

Warner Bros. Discovery announced last year that Guardians of the Galaxy And Peacemaker director James Gunn and Aquaman producer Peter Safran had been hired to lead as co-CEOs of DC Studios. DC fan’s have speculated about what Gunn and Safran’s DCU will look like, or as they call it, the DC Cinematic Universe, over the years. 

Gunn teased Twitter several times that he and Safran were working on a long-term plan for the DCU. Now, Gunn and Safran have pulled the curtains on their first 10 projects. These 10 projects span both TV and films and will all be included in Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. 

Safran stated that DC Studios was unprecendeted during a conference in which he and Gunn discussed what the future holds for Gods and Monsters. Variety. The studio is an independent production unit. It is the first time ever that everything DC related – film, television, live-action, animation, gaming – is all centralized under one creative vision, that of James and myself.” 

Before we get into the individual chapters of DCU, let’s be clear: there are no directors attached to the following 10 projects. Also, actors are not cast. Viola Davis will return to Amanda Waller’s role in DCU as she did in both. Suicide Squad Movies and Peacemaker). Variety Gunn and Safran reported that Gal Gadot left open the possibility of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman. Ezra Miller and Flash would also be possible, but they didn’t confirm that these roles were available in the new DCU. The news was bad for Man of Steel lovers. Henry Cavill will not be playing the role of Superman again.

According to Safran and Gunn, they plan to bring in approximately two movies and two television series each year to the DCU. Variety, but the duo says it will not sacrifice quality in writing or production to meet this timeline.

Superman: Legacy

Film

Superman: LegacyAccording to Safran reports, the film will be in theaters July 11th, 2025. Variety. Gunn is writing the story. It will be the official start of the DCU. However, it will not tell the origin story. Safran claims it will feature Superman’s struggle to balance his Kryptonian heritage, with his human past, before returning to a long-standing theme about the hero: “He represents truth, justice and the American way.” In a world where kindness seems outdated, he is kind. 

Safran does not have a director attached but hopes Gunn will take the reins. T-NehisiCoates wrote the script for the Superman movie and JJ Abrams produced it. It will still be in development and available to the public outside of DCU.

Superman: LegacyThis will directly lead into The AuthorityVariety Gunn reported that the movie is an ensemble film about heroes who, “basically believe you can’t solve the world in an easily manner” and take matters into their own hands. They were originally Wildstorm characters and brought to DC by DC’s New 52 comics, which launched in 2011. 

The Brave and the Bold

Film

The Brave and the BoldThe DCU will welcome the Bat family, which will be a completely different Batman from Matt Reeves’ “Elseworlds Batman Universe” starring Robert Pattinson playing Bruce Wayne. The first Batfamily character will be Damian Wayne as Robin, who Gunn describes as “our favorite Robin,” “a little son of a b***h,” an “assassin,” and a “murderer,” according to Variety

The Brave and the BoldBased on Grant Morrison’s Batman comics runs, it will tell a story between a father and son about Bruce Wayne and Damian Wayne. 

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow 

Film

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be based on King’s run of comics of the same name that spanned across 2021 and 2022. The comic will include Superman’s cousin Kara Zor El. 

Gunn explained, According to Gunn, that “We can see the difference in Superman’s life, who was sent from Earth to be raised by loving parents, while Supergirl was raised on Kryptonian rock chips and saw everyone die and be murdered in horrible ways the first 14 years.” Variety

Swamp Thing

Film

DCU Swamp Thing According to Safran, the movie will investigate the “dark origins” of Swamp Thing and will use horror as its lens. It will attempt to recreate the thrills that fans felt when it was first released. Guardians of the Galaxy DC saw the cosmic side the MCU and it was brought to life. This universe is not rooted in Earthly life. 

Creature Commandos

Television Shows Animated

Creature Commandos The animated television show will premiere on HBO Max. This is Gunn and Safran’s first project. The show’s first episode has been written by Gunn and is currently in production. Featuring characters like Frankenstein’s monster, a vampire, a gorgon, and a werewolf, the original Creature Commandos that launched in the 1980s banded together to fight Nazis in World War II, according to Variety. Gunn’s Creature Commandos will feature Weasel from his 2021 movie Suicide Squad alongside Rick Flag Sr., the father of the Rick Flag seen in the same movie. 

Gunn stated that the voices of the characters from the animated series will be used later on in the DCU’s lives by the actors who voice them. 

Creature Commandos is expected to debut before Superman: Legacy

Waller

Live Action TV Show

Season 2 Peacemaker has been put on hold as Gunn works on Superman: LegacyVariety Reports, and at its place will be Waller. It will air between the first and second seasons. Peacemaker and will see Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller return.

Lanterns

Live Action TV Show

According to Variety, Lanterns This will be an “important HBO-quality HBO show…very much in line with True Detective.” It will focus on Hal Jordan and John Stewart as the titular Green Lanterns who will investigate a mystery that Safran says “plays a really big role leading us into the main story that we’re telling across our film and television.” He added that “[Lanterns]This is a crucial show for us. 

Greg Berlanti’s long-standing Green Lantern series is not moving forward. Safran claimed that Berlanti’s series was more “space opera,” whereas Lanterns The “” is more of an “True Detective, Story about terrestrial-based investigations 

Paradise Lost

Paradise Lost will be Game of ThronesThemyscira is the story of Wonder Woman’s birthplace on an island called Themyscira. Safran claims that “it’s about the political intrigue behind society of all females,” and Gunn said, before Gunn asked Gunn: “How did it come about?” Is there a single island that is made up of women? Which are the truths, both the good and bad? How does the power play in this society conspire? 

Booster Gold

Variety writes that Booster Gold This will enable the DCU inject humor into its story. Safran described Booster Gold as “a loser in the future” who makes use of basic technology from today to pretend to be a super hero. Gunn said that the “Booster Gold” is a loser from the future who uses basic technology to come back to today and pretend to be a superhero.[Booster Gold]”Imposter Syndrome” is a synonym for a super-hero. 

This is the Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters of Gunn and Safran’s brand new DCU.
