Day Of The Devs SGF Edition Celebrates Indie Gaming

Tim Schafer headed up the introduction of this year’s Day of the Devs event, the long-running indie celebration. Originally a yearly, in-person event held in San Francisco by iam8bit or Double Fine Productions. However, this year’s indie festival was a digital one. This year’s celebration was the 10th anniversary of the event, and the teams involved had an impressive selection of titles on offer.

Animal Well

Animal Well is an unusual pixel-art adventure from developer Shared Memory, about exploring a labyrinth, solving puzzles, and uncovering what you can in the darkness.

Bear & Breakfast

Bear & Breakfast It’s all about running a bed-and-breakfast. Gummy Cat developed this management sim where Hank the bear needs your help to make it as pleasant and comfortable as possible. We don’t have long to wait on this one; the game has been announced for a release on July 22.

The Birth

Madison Karrh (solo developer) is the one behind this game The Birth. This point-and-click adventure is about being alone in a place and all the challenges it brings. To make an animal companion, players must explore different areas of the city in order to locate bones and organs. The game is about loneliness. It shows how we can go to great lengths to make that feel better.

Choo-Choo Char

Two Star Games (a solo dev studio) is crafting Choo-Choo CharA fascinating mix of train upgrades sims, open-world exploration and any other genre involving fighting evil spider trains named Charles.

Desta: Memories Between

Monument Valley’s creators over at ustwo gaming have an exciting new project: Desta: Memories Between, which tries to combine elements of roguelikes, turn-based tactics, and sports games, and combine them to make them as accessible as possible. Desta is a young lady who has returned home from the funeral of her father. She solves family problems through a game of ball that takes place in dream sequences.

Escape Academy

Coin Crew Games are hard at work Escape Academy, a game in which you are enrolled as a student to become – you guessed it – a great escapist. Think about a narrative wrapper around a game that’s gathered up a number of separate escape room experiences into a single project, and you’re beginning to grasp what they’re going for here.

Fox and Frog Travelers: A Demon on Adashino Island

Rias has this Japanese title Fox and Frog Travelers: A Demon on Adashino IslandThis 3D adventure/action is deeply rooted in Japanese mythology and culture. The mysterious Adashino Island is explored by players as demons congregate on it. Players also control a Fox-like girl and Frog,

Goodbye World

Goodbye WorldYo Fujii created it. It’s a narrative adventure game focused on puzzle/platform elements, and follows two friends working as game developers, trying to craft a product that captures the attention of the masses.  

How to Say Goodbye

This is a game about moving on and dealing with grief What to Say Goodbye?It is a story-based puzzle that takes its inspiration from illustrated books. As a ghost, players control someone who is trying to escape from the gap between life and death.

Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland

Guardians of Slumberland: Little NemoIt was presented at the Day of the Devs Event, and a Kickstarter funding campaign. It’s an adorable Metroid-inspired exploration and control game where you take the role of a little boy in pajamas as he discovers new toys, candy, stuffed animals, and other fun things.

There’s a little to the left

Developer Max Inferno is crafting Just a Little LeftA puzzle game about cleaning and sorting the house. It’s all about organizing normal household objects and finding the puzzles associated with them. This project is calm, clever and cute. It’s about paying attention to all the small things that surround us everyday. The project also features a mischievous cat, who may sometimes show up to help you untidy your hard work.

Naiad

HiWarp Studios is behind the charming game “The Game of Life” NaiadThe game consists of controlling a water-nymph while they swim and explore a river. The game of nymphs is relaxing and lovely. This one is about nature’s small and fascinating secrets as well as the pleasure of discovery.

Planet of Lana

Wishfully Studios designs the stunning Planet of LanaSide-scrolling platformer in which you take control of a young lady who wants to save her sister. You also travel the world along with her adorable companion, an adorable pet animal. It is visually striking and many of the gameplay features environmental puzzles.

Pacha roots

Soda Den was behind the farming sim named Pacha roots, set in the stone age. Playable either solo or coop, this game’s twist on the genre is that you’re discovering many of the fundemantal tricks of agriculture that helped humanity move from hunting and gathering into settled communities.

Schim

SchimPlayers control a small, dark blob that moves from shadow to shadow. This is a minimalistic display of everyday scenes such as cars in the streets or parks. You aim to reconnect with one person’s shadow.

The Time is flying

The Time is flyingThis game allows you to contemplate the world through the eyes and actions of a fly. A broader theme is that the game examines how much time we each have, as well as what we do with it.
