Dynasty Warriors 9 EmpiresThis title combines everything that you love about action games with battlefield strategy and political intrigue. It’s 1 vs. 1,000 to storm the castle, but you’ll need to add sound battlefield tactics if you hope to conquer the map, and in the process, take control of ancient China.
To me, however, the game is much more personal. I’ve been working on this title for over two years finetuning everything from officer abilities to alliances and betrayals, and it’s in these officer intricacies where the real magic of the game happens. The game launched today on Xbox Systems. Today I’d like to walk you through the various options available to build the next great ruler.
You can make anything you want, from celebrities and historical figures all the way to your own creations. Armor, hair, makeup, tattoos, glasses, hats. Layer armor, facial makeup, and coat makeup can be layered on top of one another. You also have the option to choose which military unit or officer you wish to become, down to whether he is a hero or a villain.
What kind of personality is required to take on China? Today, I’ve decided to create a cool, suave, older gentleman, someone I refer to as a “handsome man,” adding scars as a sign of success in battle (better scars than death!). You can edit the forehead height, cheekbone height, and jawline to create a variety of facial expressions. A scale that measures age can be used to show the young exuberance and grizzle of veteran warlords.
As I work my way through the officer’s face, I space the eyebrows, change the brow color, the density, and the thickness before moving onto the eyelashes, nose, mouth, and ears. If you’re creative, here’s where the options get fun as you can add facial tattoos and makeup to help add character, making your officer look like anything from a demon to a cat. To create the ultimate demon cat lover, you can layer tattoos and make-up.
You can then add an eye-patch or glasses to your facial features or even cover one side of your face with a bandana. You can add accessories such as earrings and flowers to your headwear. Next, you will need facial modifiers.
Now it’s time to move on to the officer’s physique. What height, weight, and head size is required to conquer Ancient China? You can add costumes in different colors or patterns to your standard war gear. Or, you could dress your warrior with a sport coat or tie. Layer armor over your outfit (which you can remove while walking). You can layer armor on your legs, arms, and chest. You can choose the style right down to what material. Since it’s cold in the winter, I gave my officer a nice warm hat.
When you move on from armor, it’s time to pick from various actions and weapons. The options are endless, from the Splay-blade up to the Double Pike. You also have the option to add abilities that make your officer more powerful, fast, heavy or defensive. There are many types of officers: Common officer, Gallant Officer, Majestic Officer, Galorous Officer, Paragon, Villain, Sage, and Strategist.
Choose your unit of military service: cavalry or infantry.
Your character’s rating will include everything, from attack and health to speed and defense.
Now is the time to take your officer into battle, and watch how they fight.
But the best thing is, your officer’s legacy doesn’t end there. Throughout the game, your officers can actually get married and have children, and you can then play through the game again as your created officer’s offspring, carrying on the legacy of your own “handsome man” or fierce woman warrior you’ve created for generations to come.
