Convergence review: a solid, action-packed League of Legends platformer

Riot Forge’s latest game tells a new story set in the world of Riot Forge. League of Legends universe, stepping outside of the confines of the Summoner’s Rift to explore a smaller slice of the world. Ruined king The Shadow Isles and Bilgewater are the focus of this book. MageseekerDemacia was the focus, but now you can explore Zaun yourself. Convergence: A League of LegendsStoryThe word “stylized” is CONV/RGENCEDouble Stallion’s latest Riot Forge release is a game called ).

ConvergenceThis is an action-platformer similar to Castlevania, or Metroid. Ekko the protagonist plays a pivotal role. It’s a solid game that can be beaten in a few sittings, packed with likable characters and tense boss fights. The platforming is a little finicky at times, but I’m able to overcome the hardest parts with my gizmos.

Ekko creates gadgets, such as localized-time-travel devices and Wall-running Shoes. Real EstatePower is in his gold-plated heart. He was a child in Zaun – a steampunk utopia built under the gleaming tech utopia Piltover. Piltover uses its superiority over Zaun as a means to oppress the people of Zaun.

After a huge explosion on a Zaunite Spire, I control Ekko. The orange-colored substance that was released drew the attention of the ruthless chemical barons as well as the Piltover Elite. A much older, ominous Future Ekko appears to me and warns of a great catastrophe. All of this suggests there’s a crisis on the horizon, and Ekko isn’t the type of kid to sit back and let it happen.

Ekko uses gadgets like the Z-Drive to help his travels, allowing him to go back in time a few minutes. It’s a very useful tool. Every time I am hit with sniper fire or fall into an abyss I can simply turn back the clock to get right back in the action. Ekko’s abilities from League of LegendsThey also appear in various forms, which allows me to fly through walls and freeze platforms while in the air. I can even use my ultimate move to travel backwards in time, inflicting massive damage on everyone in front of me.

Ekko is also equipped with some abilities that were not available to him in LeagueThey are vital in Convergence. Zaun requires special shoes, and some sweet moves. The platforming feels great, but it basically requires a controller — using keyboard and mouse is a good way to fall down infinite pits and miss the timing on grabs. I run up walls, grind along rails and use clotheslines and poles as flippers.

I sometimes run into dead ends that require a brand new gadget in order to navigate. Convergence Zaun is filled with races and collectibles. I wish certain parts of the map weren’t quite so locked behind platforming — it feels a little silly to have to vault, leap, spin, and bypass hurdles just to get back to my apartment. I guess that’s just Zaun for you!

And in fairness, Zaun is a weird city — but that also makes it fun to explore. It is dark by nature and built of iron and glass. However, its inhabitants have decorated it with bright neon lights and graffiti. Zaun and its inhabitants are packed with personality, and Double Stallion’s sprites are cartoonishly exaggerated, with heavy black lines and bold colors. The voice acting in the game is also solid; I’ve never been a big Ekko fan, but he grew on me significantly over the course of the adventure.

The other Riot Forge games have focused on parts of Runeterra that are largely unexplored, but we’ve seen a lot of Zaun — particularly in the Netflix animated series Arcane. If you’re expecting ConvergenceFollow up on Arcane,It’s possible to be confused by the two different continuities. Ekko now has his own parents instead of being an orphan. And he plays in another HQ with a new group of friends.

If you don’t have any expectations, then it will be difficult to succeed. Arcane, ConvergenceIt’s a wonderful adventure. Ekko has to face some tough boss battles with champions such as Camille, Warwick and Jinx. Camille, for example, uses hextech to take control of the battlefield while Warwick has a more raw and uncontrollable force. It’s great to see these Champions outside of LeagueThis is a great reminder of what Riot Forge has to offer. In fact, it seems that these characters are best suited to play outside of competitive games. ConvergenceGives the opportunity for them to excel in their own element.
