Rufus is a basic peasant. He works on a farm, is somewhat insolent and he’s not the sharpest tool in the shed. A normal man that one day must become a hero for his wife and village against the Evil One. Brunilde his wife isn’t the traditional attractive princess video-games have made her out to be. But the love between the two is stronger than anything else and that’s why Rufus armed himself with broom and bucket (the first to be used as a weapon, the latter a helmet) to go and rescue her.

The protagonist is the player at the beginning of the game. Clunky HeroYou can use a broom to fight your foes. You will have access to more bizarre weapons later, such as a long banana and a frozen eel. There will also be grotesque enhancements items and unique special skills.

Although the humoristic tone may be parodying fantasy RPGs, it is still satirical. Clunky HeroIt features a strong metroidvania experience, featuring nearly 50 levels and nine areas. Exploring the large maps will be a key aspect of this game. You’ll need to have special skills, often acquired after you defeat a boss. The levels are filled with friendly NPCs and evil enemies. While the colorful graphics mix a mixture of 3D and hand drawn elements, the game’s mechanics are typical for an arcade side-scroller.

The game style of Arcade combats is basically the same as the arcade. It focuses more on the quick and easy slashing enemies than the complex fights. NPCs are available to purchase bonuses from shops around. These items may be found hidden in chests and in secret rooms.

Developer Nicola Piovesan says: “I wanted to create a truly fun game, not only in its bizarre elements and hilarious dialogues, but also in its playability. It’s a metroidvania game for everybody.”

STORYLINE
Rufus, an uninterested peasant from a faraway village, lived an everyday life. The boss of the house was his wife, Brunilde, a boisterously smart and funny woman that you wouldn’t exactly call “pretty”. The village was happy and peaceful until the Evil One woke up. He began to scatter his minions throughout the town performing horrible acts against people. Brunilde’s kidnapping was one of the worst. She was torn from Rufus’ hands and put in a prison at the Evil One’s castle. Now, her doll face has been transformed into a blonde duck-faced doll girl. She spends most of her time looking in a tiny handheld mirror.

Rufus built a helmet using a bucket. Then he used a broom to defeat her. He is now known as the CLUNKY HERO by everyone, but he may be the best hope of defeating the evil one no one would want to name. Rufus now embarks on his mission to rescue his wife and save the entire village.
