CD Projekt Red Reveals Codename Canis Majoris Is A Remake Of The First Witcher Game

CD Projekt Red had announced earlier this month that it would be developing new Cyberpunk games and multiple Witcher-games, as well as a brand new IP. CDPR called one of these Witcher games “Canis Majoris” while the other was codenamed “Canis Majoris”. The company now reveals that Canis Majoris is actually a remake from the original Witcher game. 

The official Witcher Twitter account posted the news this morning, revealing that CDPR is working with developer Fool’s Theory to make The Witcher using Unreal Engine 5. Fool’s Theory not only developed Seven Enhanced Edition, Seven Drowned Pass but also offered development support for games such as Divinity Original Sin II and Baldur’s Gate II. 

As you can see, it will likely be a long time before we actually get to play this game as CDPR is already asking for patience from fans. 

In a press release, Adam Badowski, CDPR’s head of studio CD Projekt Red writes that “The Witcher” is the place where all began for CD Projekt Red. It was our first ever game, so it was an important moment. The idea of going back to that place to remake the game so the next generation can experience it is just as important, if maybe even more. As some of those involved with The Witcher, it is equally exciting to collaborate on this project with Fool’s Theory. 

They are experts in the original material, know what gamers want, and know how to create ambitious and amazing games. It will take some time until we can share more from and about the game. But I’m confident that it’ll be worthwhile. 

Jakub Rokosz CEO Fool’s Theory says his team is happy to partner with CDPR in order to bring players another fantastic game from the Witcher Series, particularly “a remake” of an old project. 

This reveal, while not much else about the remake was made public, helps us to see how CDPR will develop over the next 10 years. Read more about other projects in development by the company, including a Cyberpunk-themed game and an IP.
