Capcom’s Onimusha Is Getting An Anime Adaptation On Netflix

Netflix has announced that the Capcom 2001 PlayStation 2 video game and its sequels will be adapted into an anime. This is an announcement which I could not have anticipated. It is surprising to see the reveal for many reasons. It is a franchise that’s not very popular or well-known. The anime also seems to be very different from the original video game. The trailer does not feature the protagonist Samanosuke Akechi. Samanosuke, who is based on Japanese actor Kaneshiro Takeshi, Miyamoto, the protagonist of the anime, was modeled on the late Japanese actor Toshiro Mifune. Coincidentally, Onimusha 2’s protagonist, Jubei Yagyu, was modeled after Japanese actor Yūsaku Matsuda, who had also passed away well before the game released. The series has a strange theme, but this is important.

Takashi miike will also be co-directing this adaptation. Miike has directed films such as Ichi the killerYou can also find out more about the following: AuditionBut he has also directed another Capcom big franchise with Ace AttorneyA film adaptation of the Phoenix Wright game.

When Onimusha was released for Switch, I enjoyed playing it again and beating it. Here are more thoughts I have on the topic.

Netflix will premiere the anime on November 2.
