Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies & Campaign | New Gameplay Today

It’s that time once again. It’s almost time for a new Call of Duty entry. With its arrival comes the common question of whether it is worth the effort to get the most recent installment of the annualized series. With these new episodes of New Gameplay Today we set out to address that question, focusing on Call of Duty Vanguard’s zombie campaign mode and Call of Duty: Vanguard.

Wes LeBlanc and Dan Tack join Alex Stadnik for NGT number 1. Here, we are given a glimpse into the future of zombie-slaying. Vanguard takes a different approach instead of the classic round-based method that put the series on the map. Teams of four begin in a hub world and choose what objective-based missions they want to embark on. Every round, whether it was survival, classic escort or gathering objectives felt different as the team struggled for survival and upgraded points. After you win the match you go back to the hub world where you’ll have to again defend your safety from the evil undead Nazis. This package has been our favorite so far because of these and other clever adjustments.

However, the same cannot be said for the campaign. The same team is back in the New Gameplay Today to discuss the highlights and low points of Call of Duty’s latest campaign. Although the graphics are stunning, Vanguard is filled with Michael Bay references. There are many aspects we enjoyed, but the story is often boring. This game is not helping its cause by allowing us to feel the “been here, done that”, feeling throughout many of the shooting galleries.
