Book of Boba Fett’s blue bounty hunter is a Star Wars fan fave for big reasons
Boba Fett’s BookIt is fast becoming a meeting place for bounty hunters, and Chapter 6 featured one of their most exciting and unexpected additions. Because the new gunslinger who crosses paths with Timothy Olyphant’s Cobb Vanth in Mandalorian spinoff isn’t blue, from a professional standpoint. He’s had plenty of other adventures in the Star Wars universe.
In case you haven’t caught up Star Wars’ various animated series, here’s a brief history of The Book of Boba Fett’s new bad guy.
[Ed. Note: This post contains spoilers for The Book of Boba Fett and all previous Star Wars series.]
This is the newest bounty hunter Boba Fett’s Book goes by the name of Cad Bane, and he’s been a fan favorite villain since the Star Wars: The Clone Wars series. Cad is from Duro, and has been a part of almost all the villains and bad guys in Star Wars history. Despite his numerous animated and comic-based appearances, this is the first time Cad has been in a live-action Star Wars project — though the live-action character is still voiced by Corey Burton, just like his animated counterpart.

Cad started his career as a bounty hunter under Darth Maul in the pre-Clone War era. Cad splits with Maul following a mishap in a kidnapping. He then sets out on his own as the Republic prepares for the Clone Wars.
Bane flourished throughout the war. He often did business with the Confederacy of Independent Systems (Hutts), and, perhaps, Darth Sidious.
Throughout the Clone Wars, Cad took on many missions including kidnapping, heists, and good old fashioned bounty hunting — he even competed in a bounty hunter-themed Hunger Games.
Cad is perhaps best known for his many encounters and survival skills with Jedi. Most bounty hunters fail when confronted with Force-wielders. Cad, however, excels. He has taken on Obi Wan, Anakin and Ahsoka during the Clone Wars.
The most important aspect of his appearance this time is that Cad Bane, near the Clone Wars’ end, became Boba Fett’s mentor. Boba’s father Jango had mentored Cad, so it seemed only right to return the favor. While we don’t know much about the time the two spent together, we do get a glimpse of this backstory in The Book of Boba FettChapter 6, when Cad informs Cobb Vanth about Boba’s murderous ways. Perhaps that’s part of what the series will explore should the two legendary bounty hunters meet in the season’s final episode.
Imperial days

Cad worked a wide variety of tasks during the Galactic Empire’s reign, which included a brief encounter with Fennec Shawd and Bad Batch squad clone troopers. Aside from a few missions though, we don’t know much about how Cad spend his time during the Empire’s reign. We do know that he joined the Pyke Syndicate and is found in The Book of Boba FettChap 6.
Pyke Syndicate
They are one of the most powerful and important criminal rings in galaxy, and they have also played a number of important roles in Star Wars’ universe. Perhaps their most interesting and prolific period was when Darth Maul was their ruler — shortly after he was cut in half by Obi-Wan.
Maul pushed Syndicate to go beyond simple Spice trading. They were able to conquer Mandalore and take over the throne. Since then, the Pykes have mostly been content running the largest Spice smuggling ring in the galaxy, and it seems they’re unhappy with anyone threatening that rule.
We see Cad Bane at the conclusion of this scene. The Book of Boba FettChapter 6. He defeats Cobb Vanth and reminds everyone that only the Syndicate can control the sands in Tatooine. While he may be serving the Syndicate in order to maintain the Spice flowing smoothly, Cad could have other personal concerns.
After all, he’s now on a collision course with Fennec Shand, who he has a score to settle with, and his former protégé Boba Fett. It seems probable that Cad will play an important role in the last episode. The Book of Boba Fett.
