Blumhouse Productions Announces Game Development And Publishing Company

Blumhouse Productions (the film and TV production company that is best known for horror films) has entered into the game development business. Blumhouse Productions, the multimedia company that is the most successful in multi-media has launched a subsidiary for developing and publishing games.

Blumhouse Games is a new company that will partner with independent designers in order to produce horror-themed projects. A press release states that the company will target titles with budgets under $10 million to “enable innovation and pushing creative boundaries.” Games will be available on console, computer, and mobile platforms. 

Blumhouse Games’ president Zach Wood is a thirty-year veteran in the gaming industry. Wood was most recently employed by Iron Galaxy. However, he has previously worked for studios like Arkane or Santa Monica Studio. Wood will be joined by CFO Don Sechler, former head of finance, operations, and strategy at PlayStation.

“Through my time in the industry, I’ve had the good fortune of working closely with developers to bring their ideas to life. There’s a unique opportunity for horror and genre in the indie game space, and I’m thrilled about teaming up with Blumhouse to meaningfully leverage the company’s brand, reputation, and creative talent,” said Zach Wood.

Blumhouse Productions President Abhijayprakash stated, in his own words, that he believes, “We have wanted to establish a team in order to take advantage of the interactive media growth opportunities for a long time. When we sat with Zach and Don they articulated an approach that resonated with Blumhouse’s model and we knew it was a perfect place for us to start our push into the interactive space. With their experience, sensibility, and knowledge of the gaming marketplace, Zach and Don are the ideal leaders to leverage Blumhouse’s unique genre strengths into gaming.”

Blumhouse Productions was started in 2000. Since then, the company has made dozens horror films and TV series, such as Paranormal Activity (Insidious), The Purge and many other scary/thriller franchises. The company most recently produced this year’s sci-fi creepy doll horror film, M3GAN,And is available to assist in the sequel’s development. M3GAN 2.0.
