Blue Beetle’s HBO Max movie costume, revealed at DC FanDome
Blue Beetle, the latest DC hero to jump to the big screen and the first live action superhero film about a Latinx actor from Latinx directors is Blue Beetle.
And at Saturday’s 2021 DC FanDome event, the first real details about the film were revealed.
A preview gave viewers a glimpse into the characters history and explained how they got their powers. The introduction included Xolo Maridueña, who plays Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle in the movie, who got to debut the first concept art of the character’s costume.
Angel Manuel Soto directed the film, which was his last. Charm City KingsGareth Dunnet Alcocer wrote the following:Miss Bala Blue BeetleThe story of Jaime Reyes (a Mexican-American teenage who acquires strange armor and superpowers after an alien scarab like machine fused with his spine) will be told. Reyes’s premise is quite scary, but it lends itself well to comedy and coming-of age stories. Jaime does not know the capabilities of the scarab.
Soto spoke at FanDome to discuss the special character and the movie’s capture of that.
“One thing the Gareth did really well is capture the Latino family at its core,” Soto said about the movie’s writer. “This film kind of opens this door for a new generation of what Blue Beetle can become at the hands of Jaime”
John Rogers and Keith Giffen created Jaime for DC Comics. He is the third Blue Beetle after Dan Garret, a Golden Age criminal fighter, and Ted Kord, a scientist and inventor. It remains to be determined if the movie will feature these classic characters in some way or not. Jaime’s story is already cool as hell whether or not they show up.
Blue BeetleRelease date is not known yet.
