Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis trailer shows the musical biopic starring Tom Hanks

Warner Bros. has released the trailer. Elvis, Baz Luhrman’s musical biopic of the eponymous rock-and-roll legend starring Austin Butler (Hollywood Once Upon a TimeIt’s a total bonkers comedy by Tom Hanks ()

Baz Luhrmann, one of the most stylically unique auteurs his generation, is known for extravagant, musically-inclined stories, and lavish theatrical special effects in films like Romeo + Juliet, Moulin Rouge!Please see the following: The Great Gatsby.

All of those qualities shine in full force in this new trailer, chronicling Elvis Presley’s rise to stardom from his humble beginnings in a Mississippi church choir to musical superstar crooning and gyrating on national television. Tom Hanks has it all Cloud AtlasMode here, performing what can only been described as his greatest Foghorn Leghorn impression as Colonel Tom Parker. He discovers Elvis, and guides him to his rise to fame and fortune.

Luhrman’s film will focus intensely on the dynamic between Presley and Parker, spanning over 20 years as the former’s meteoric success eventually wanes into disillusionment against the backdrop of America’s evolving cultural landscape.
