Battlefield 2042 Season One Delayed To Give Dice Time To Improve Core Game, Address Issues

Battlefield 2042 has been around since November’s launch. You probably know Dice faces a tough task in improving the game. It launched with bugs galore – something touched on in the Game Informer Battlefield 2042 review – and post-launch updates and patches have been focused almost exclusively on squashing them and fixing other issues.

Dice recognized 2042’s shortcomings and has promised to rectify them. Dice has decided to delay the first season of the game.

Dice posted a blog entry saying, “We’ve heard you.” “So, we are heavily invested and committed to the future of Battlefield 2042 – working on taking action on multiple fronts to address feedback and implement extensive fixes to the game, key features that are important to you, and getting team play where it needs to be.

It was necessary to make big decisions in order to focus our next updates on these enhancements. We moved the first season’s release date to the early summer. The move allows us to concentrate on improving Battlefield 2042’s experience, while also finalizing our seasonal content development to make sure it meets our high standards for quality.

This is a promising sign for the future shooter but it will likely disappoint fans who are looking forward to Season One, and any additional content. Dice did reveal a preview of what Season One will look like.

The blog entry states that Season One will arrive in the early summer. “It will be the beginning of a new year, where we’ll deliver 4 Seasons and 4 new Specialists. It will also bring new locations, along with completely new content.” We are sorry that the release of this year’s Year 1 Pass is delayed than we had anticipated. Many of those who bought the Ultimate Editions Gold or Ultimate Editions of the Year 1 Pass will be disappointed. As a token of appreciation and gratitude for all your support and patience, players who purchased the Year 1 Pass as part of the Ultimate Edition will be able to receive an exclusive bundle that includes a specialist skin, weapon, vehicle skins and a player card.

Dice shared an image of future updates that it had planned. It looks promising.

  • Scoreboard“In the next update, you’ll see a new in-round Scoreboard and other improvements we made since the holidays. It will continue to evolve from the recent work in progress. Your feedback regarding the inclusion of two tables, and the ability to separate your team from the enemy has been received and we are currently working towards incorporating it into the release. In a future update, we will add K/D scoring as well as End-of-Round reporting.
  • All Platform Voice Communication“The advent of voice communication (VOIP), just the beginning of our improvements to team play and communications”
  • Player Profil: “Giving a better overview about your battlefield career and where you need to take your next unlock.”

Dice stated that the studio would “incorporate a tighter squad loop and refined ping system to address 2042’s current problems with team play.” Feedback-based changes will be made to gunplay during matches.

Dice claims it will expand the tools and modes available to players, as well as improve player experience on the Portal side. This studio is also analyzing Specialists. While the post doesn’t say much about them, the blog says the studio will.
