Batman Voice Actor Kevin Conroy Passes Away At 66
Kevin Conroy, the iconic voice actor who played Batman: The Animated Series, and many other projects has passed away. He was 66.
Today’s news came as a result of Diane Pershing, BTAS actress and voice actor for Poison Ivy posting on Facebook, that Conroy had died from an illness later diagnosed to be cancer. Warner Bros. later confirmed the news.
Pershing states, “Very sad to report that our beloved Batman voice, Kevin Conroy passed away yesterday.” He’s been sick for some time, but he put in much of his effort at cons to the delight of his fans. His fans around the globe will miss him greatly, not only by the rest of the cast but also his many followers. Here are some pictures of Kevin and Loren Lester, who play Robin with me. Tara Strong is also in these later Batman cartoons episodes. Finally, a picture of Kevin with me before the large audiences that we had when we were doing our panels. RIP, friend.”
Conroy’s acting career spanned decades across stage, TV, and film, with numerous credits dating back to the late 1970s. For a generation of comic book fans, his breakout role would be his portrayal of Bruce Wayne/Batman in 1992’s critically Batman: The Animated Series. His voice would be used in future series and films of the DC Animated Universe as Batman. The New Batman Adventures, Batman Beyond, Superman: The Animated Series, Static Shock, Justice LeagueAnd Justice League Unlimited. Conroy was also a live-action Bruce Wayne version in Arrowverse. Batwoman.
“Kevin was a brilliant actor,” says Joker actor Mark Hamill in a press release from Warner Bros. “For several generations, he has been the definitive Batman. This was one of those rare situations where the right man was cast for each part. The world was better because it was. His rhythms and subtleties, tones and delivery – that all also helped inform my performance. He was the ideal partner – it was such a complementary, creative experience. I couldn’t have done it without him. He will always be my Batman.”
In video games, Conroy would lend his voice to the Dark Knight in several Batman titles, including the Injustice series and, perhaps most famously, Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham trilogy. Conroy was most recently the voice of Batman in MultiVersus, a Warner Bros. fighting video game.
His husband Vaughn C. Williams and his sister Trisha Conroy are still with him. Game Informer offers our condolences to Conroy’s family and friends.
