Awesome Games Done Quick 2023 Raises $2.6 Million For Cancer Research
Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) started the New Year with a bang, raising over $2.6 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. GDQ (Gamers Done Quick) is a 24 hour charity stream where avid gamers run speedruns of their favorites games. Most events used to take place in person before 2020. But, since then, streamers have mostly taken control of the broadcasting. The event included 140 runs and ran between January 8-15.
While most runners don’t expect to set new records during the marathon, a whopping four were set this year for the following games: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, PowerWash Simulator, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and Steven Seagal Is: The Final Option (Prototype). Four is an incredible number, whereas most years only have one or two.
2023 marks the 14th year that the biannual charity marathon has taken place. They have two main events in the winter and summer, but they also hold smaller events throughout the year. One of these is Frost Fatales, an all-women speedrunning event, which will take place from February 26 – March 4, 2023 on Twitch. It was started in 2010. Since then, the organization has raised more than $4.5 million. $43 Spend millions for charity
AGDQ was originally intended to be conducted in person but was moved online due to COVID concerns. Summer Games Done Quick is their summer event. However, it’s not known if they will hold the event in person.
