Atomic Heart Gets Fall 2022 Release Window

Mundfish’s Atomic Heart is making waves in gaming forums ever since the 2018 debut of early footage. Atomic Heart, a retro-futuristic reimagining of 1950s Soviet Russia is filled with rampaging automatons (?), wooly man-bears-things (?)Gelatinous horrors, as well as many others. IGNThe trailer premiered with new story beats, English translation, and an unexpected Fall 2022 release window. The new gameplay/cinematics can be viewed below.

The central storyline is unclear at this point, but there are interesting mechanics to be found. A glove equips Protagonist P-3 (a KGB agent) that levels all playing fields. You can use telekinesis (a technique that allows you to fire on enemies or to weaponize the environment) to freeze your assailants during an action (1:43 mark). There are many zany weapons, reminiscent of Dying Light 2’s modified melee armaments or Far Cry 6’s repurposed guns. The battlefields explode with fire and blood. Atomic Heart also showed a skill tree footage that revealed its deep RPG-inspired progression scheme. The first-person action is intentionally discombobulating to emphasize the game’s horror motifs – despite having an assortment of mind-bending powers, agent P-3 is entirely out of his depth.

Mick Gordon, who is responsible for 2016’s Doom soundtrack, contributes his musical talents to Atomic Heart’s pulsing music. Mundfish’s world of open-world terror is brought to life by guttural guitar chords and whirring synths. As for plot details, Atomic Heart’s developers told IGN,” ‘Atomic Heart” can have many meanings and is not limited to the core of a machine. This is not just about the scientific leap. The competition that took place between the USSR (and the United States) at that time is another factor. For now, we will not say much more.

Atomic Heart will be available for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/S. Xbox players rejoice! It’s a Day 1 Game Pass upgrade.
