A robot that I didn’t see or hear has caused me to lose a significant amount of my progress. The falsified tension eventually encourages people to backtrack to save stations and makes what should have been a steady march to the finish a process of incremental progress.

But Playing on Peaceful Atom has helped me appreciate the game more. I switched difficulty levels during one early boss — against the fire-breathing Giant Mutant — and haven’t looked back.

I’ve been able to use melee weapons more effectively against cannon fodder, conserving ammo for tougher fights, which in turn has let me get better acquainted with Atomic Heart’s ‘50s-inspired arsenal. This has enabled me to experiment with its many abilities, rather than relying only on those I had learned to trust during the opening hours (the frozen Frostbite) The best part is that the safe spots feel secure.
