Hello everyone, I’m Sabine Neuser, Narrative Designer at Deck13. This is our game Atlas Fallen releases May 16, it’s a superpowered third-person action-RPG where you’ll play as a hero who rises against a tyrannical god! I’m here to introduce you to the oppressed society that awaits you to reclaim its freedom.

A Fallen World

You’ll find yourself in a timeless land named Atlas. After a catastrophe that occurred a long while ago, the Atlas landscape changed. This allowed a corrupted god enforce new orders. This devastated, “fallen” world is now covered in sand and hosts the many ruins of time immemorial. Although the population has declined dramatically, there are still a few settlements.

It’s not an empty world but a desolate one, in which people desperately long for change… while others try to prevent it. With its vast landscape of dunes and scarce population, there’s a desert feel to Atlas, but your story will take you to many places where you will encounter various people and learn about their life and challenges.

Caste System

The sun god, Thelos reigns in Atlas and has established a caste system for humankind. Priests are under their authority and worship them. The priests can be seen as the highest caste of the system, and they assign workers their tasks and ensure that they’re performed.

The order maintained by this system goes as far as denying the lowest class of workers their names, reducing them strictly to their function and referring to them simply as “the Unnamed”. Atlas is home to the largest part of this population. They worship Thelos and follow them. Because their workforce is vital for maintaining the divine order, they are also tools to the power.

One task is assigned to The Unnamed: To mine and transport sand imbued by Essence to the capital. Guards and a handful of priests watch over the caravans that are used to transport people. Atlas’ society is a system that upholds itself, oppression is ordinary and power is closely guarded.

Opposition to The Order

But there are also those who oppose. The Unnamed, based on their position in society, have a clear calling. To follow Thelos’s will they might be rewarded in the afterlife. However, it can be difficult to remain in a position that has no meaning other than to serve as a pawn under the rule of tyrannic Gods. You are never acknowledged for more than what you have done. While some of them adapt, others don’t.

Although they appear to be a homogeneous group in society’s eyes, the Unnamed can feel very individual and their mood can vary greatly within the group. Some people seem to find the purpose of life in serving others, while some are looking for change. Others even attempt to organise themselves to resist and to stay organized. Their lives, however, are easily disposable to the system.

The Knights of Bastengar are a powerful faction that is hidden from the rest of the caste systems. They are a secretive group whose roots go back to the ancient past. Very little information is available about them. Many believe they are dead. However, this is only to their advantage.

From Hero to Unnamed

Our hero’s journey takes him from being an Unnamed to becoming a hero with extraordinary powers that haven’t been seen on Atlas for decades. Interacting with other characters will allow you to talk and do quests for rewards or trade with vendors. You will meet people from every rank in society, who will all show an interest in the powers of the hero’s artifact, for one purpose or another. They will behave according to how they feel about the hero. Some will be honest and support him on friendly terms while others may manipulate and act hostile.

As your abilities grow over the course of this story you’ll be able to access new territory and also meet people who reside in the capital. You will meet peasants, military, knights, priests and many more, whether they be a brief encounter or play a recurring role, trying to influence our hero’s quest one way or the other.
