Assassin’s Creed: Liberation HD Delisted From Steam With Owners Losing Access In September

Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD was removed from Steam at Ubisoft’s request. Eventually, it will become inaccessible to players who have already bought it. 

Nors3A screen grab of the Steam page for the game was first shared on Twitter. A notice states, “At the request of the publisher, Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD is no longer available for sale on Steam.”

Another, much more worrying notice states that “Please note this title will no longer be available after September 1, 2022.”

Nors3 points out Ubisoft as well. discounted Liberation HD by 75 percentLast week’s Steam Summer Sale saw that users who bought it last week now have less time than usual to use it. Naturally, those people are unhappy, and several have begun posting negative reviews on the store page for Assassin’s Creed III Remastered, now the only way to play Liberation HD on Steam since it comes included. 

Though not completely unheard of, removing access to Liberation HD even to game owners seemingly without offering refunds and after a big sale has been viewed as a major breach of consumer trust. This action is part of Ubisoft’s newly announced plan to stop online services for several titles starting September. Liberation HD was one of them.

This shutdown will affect the PC version of many Ubisoft Games. Online features and DLC purchased by Ubisoft cannot be downloaded or accessed (which is problematic in itself). Liberation was not affected by the shutdown notice. However, owners will still be able to access the game. Ubisoft has yet to officially comment on the situation at the time of publishing, but the move is another unfortunate reminder of the worst side of a potential all-digital gaming future.
