Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo cast in the Wicked movie

It WickedMovie has two leads witches, Cynthia Erivo & Ariana Grande.

Grande will be Glinda the Good Witch. Kristin Chernoweth originated the Broadway version of this role. Erivo, the Misunderstood Green-skinned Wicked Witch of the West role, will replace Erivo.

The musical is based on Gregory Maguire’s book of the same name, and is a prequel to The Wizard of OzThis movie follows Elphaba, Glinda, and their rivalry as they become best friends during college. They eventually split up. The upcoming movie is directed by Jon M. Chu, who directed this year’s In the Heights. Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Woodman, original playwright and composer of the musical’s music, will both adapt the script.

Grande and Erivo announced their castings via their Instagrams. They also posted screenshots from Grande and FaceTime of Grande, as well as flowers and photos they shared.

Film adaptation Wicked The film has been in discussion for years. Universal Studios, which produced the film, announced that Stephen Daldry would serve as the director. Although the film had originally been set for 2019 in 2016, it was delayed due to production scheduling. CatsMovie rescheduled for its previous release date. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film was again put on hold. Jon M. Chu became the director in February 2021.
