Animal Crossing’s Beautiful Island ordinance spams islands with flowers

The Animal Crossing New HorizonsA few characters and popular features have been reintroduced in 2.0 update. New Leaf. Brewster’s cafe is back, Kapp’n trips are on, and ordinances are once again a feature. These ordinances allow a player to further customize their island, for a tidy sum of 20,000 Bells — allowing a player to change the price of goods, or when villagers awaken or go to bed, among other things. However, one ordinance did have some unintended consequences.

The “Beautiful Island” ordinance does a handful of things, most of which are quite useful for the discerning New Horizons player. This prevents cockroaches infesting your house (a common problem for those who have been away from home for some time). Players will also no longer fish up any trash, weeds will grow less often, and — here’s the kicker — villagers will More water for flowers. The Beautiful Island ordinance makes flowers grow very quickly.

As a result, the “Beautiful Island” ordinance has had the opposite effect of “beautification,” for some players — instead spamming them with oceans of unassailable flowers.

Flowers were a central, even if contentious, element of design. Animal Crossing New Horizons. Eight different flower breeds are available in just a few colors. Some of these only occur through carefully hybridization. Every island is home to one unique species of flower. This means that it takes some time and effort to select the best mix, varietals, and places. Flowers can be beautiful when they are arranged well.

However, flowers can also be a hassle to handle or even eradicate. Every flower needs to be moved or removed manually using a shovel. Because these shovels break, it is necessary to prune large areas. On top of that, flowers don’t stack in the inventory — even if they’re the same type and color — nor do they sell for any kind of meaningful profit. And if you’re going quickly, you might accidentally pick a flower instead of digging it up, thereby forfeiting two inventory spots: one for the blooms, one for the plant.

Anyone who just contained large amounts of flowers during the pre-update Island prep could find this ordinance very damaging. These flowers may be eradicated by a good player. WeedCo Weed Removal Services was a player that claimed to be a weed puller and offered free weed-clearing. (Alternatively, if you’ve got heavy pockets, Nookazon has had plenty of new offers for “dig up flowers,” for a fee.)

Redditors pointed out that the ordinance does nearly the opposite of what they’d prefer, with regards to weeds and flowers. Although weeds are annoying and can lower an island’s star rating, they can also look great when integrated into design and can be much easier to remove. Redditor Even-Vermicelli-8101 put it succinctly: “The way flowers multiply like rabbits normally in this game I’m not surprised. I’m glad I decided not to even think about enacting that ordinance.”
