Analogue Pocket gets translucent colors, pre-orders coming soon

Analogue Pocket has revealed seven brand new colors for its limited edition glow in the dark Analogue Pocket, all of which are inspired by the Game Boy Pocket’s translucent shells and the heyday it enjoyed. Analogue released a list of handhelds that will be available for purchase on Monday. They include Clear, Smoke (translucent), Red, Blue Orange, Green and Purple. ET is 249.99 dollars and it will be shipped within 2 weeks.

Those of you who’ve been to Analogue before should arrive early and keep your fingers crossed. The translucent variants will be available in “limited quantities” and “will never be sold again,” according to Analogue’s Chris Taber. Pre-orders will likely hit eBay minutes after the launch, as the scarcity of these items is sure to encourage scalpers.

If you’re not familiar with the Pocket, it’s a boutique clone console capable of playing Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance cartridges (and many others, with an adapter) on a gorgeous, high-resolution backlit screen with impressive accuracy. If you’re short on carts, or want more consoles, it also supports so-called OpenFPGA cores, ranging from obscure arcade hardware, to classic consoles like the Super Nintendo, to less obscure arcade hardware like the Neo Geo. Pocket’s support for Bluetooth Controllers and TV Output via the $99 Analogue Dock makes it one of our favourite ways to enjoy old games.

Translucent Purple or, let’s just say it, Atomic Purple
