Amazon Games Will Publish Crystal Dynamics’ Next Tomb Raider Game

Amazon Games will publish Crystal Dynamics Tomb Raider 2, which was previously announced in January. 

Crystal Dynamics announced in April that the company was working on its next Tomb Raider title. The series began in 2013 with a new reboot. They did so during the State of Unreal 2022 presentation, revealing that this Tomb Raider sequel – the fourth in this rebooted series – will be built on Unreal Engine 5. Crystal Dynamics announced today that Amazon Games would publish this sequel. 

A press release stated that Crystal Dynamics and Amazon Games have announced an agreement. Crystal Dynamics will create a multiplatform Tomb Raider game, while Amazon Games will provide full support and publish the game worldwide. “The new Tomb Raider, as-yet untitled,” is a narrative-driven single-player adventure which continues Lara Croft’s story in Tomb Raider.

It includes everything that made Tomb Raider one the most beloved franchises in gaming. Players can control Lara Croft, the confident, multidimensional hero, in an environment that encourages exploration and creativity, has mind-bending puzzles and many enemies to overcome. 

According to the press release, Unreal Engine 5 will be used by the studio to create the “most extensive Tomb Raider” game yet. The development of this sequel is still in its early stages. 

Christoph Hartmann is vice president for Amazon Games. He says Tomb Raider has been a favorite IP in entertainment history. Amazon is extremely excited about working with Crystal Dynamics, a visionary team that brings the next chapter to Lara Croft’s tale to fans around the world.

Crystal Dynamics studio head Scot Amos says following Embracer Group’s acquisition of the studio earlier this year, the team “has an extraordinary opportunity… to redefine what a publishing relationship is for Tomb Raider.” 

We are looking for something transformative and Amazon Games has provided us with a group that shares our vision and values. Their unique position allows them to redefine publishing and collaborations in development. We are eager to start building the best Tomb Raider games yet.
