Starfield puts few restrictions on joining factions at first, though you’ll have to make some tough choices later on. Starfield has five major factions that we know of, though outside of Constellation, it’s easy to miss them unless you’re paying attention to side quests. The Major factions of the United States StarfieldHere are some examples.
- Constellation
- Ryujin Industries
- UC Vanguard
- Freestar Rangers
- Crimson Fleet
As far as we know, there are still other minor factions that you cannot join. These minor factions can offer you special bonus options and dialogues if they are associated with certain traits. As an example, you can choose the Raised EnlightenedThe following are some examples of how to use Raised UniversalYou will receive a chest of New Atlantis items when you acquire the trait.

What are the different factions in Starfield that you can join?

You can join all major factions in StarfieldYou can be in each other’s presence within minutes if that is what you desire. There’s no penalty for joining any or all of them, and except in some cases, your actions for one faction won’t have any effect on how the others view you — at least for a while.
The questlines of each faction become more difficult, particularly the Vanguard quest and Crimson Fleet. The Vanguard wants to eradicate the Fleet, which is, naturally, not going to set well with the Fleet if you’re working with them. If you plan to play through all the saves, make sure to have multiple files open.
Starfield: Joining Each faction
You can join a faction by completing a quest, or a series of quests. If you’re not sure whether a quest is tied to a faction, open your mission log, and head to the “Faction” tab. There is always a quest for a particular faction in every mission. Alternatively, head to the “You can also read about the advantages of using” tab and check the symbol next to the quest name. Faction quests have a faction symbol next to them, such as the Crimson Fleet’s red skull-and-bones or the Freestar Rangers’ brown-and-yellow emblem.

Constellation is part of your main story. Travel to the Lodge in New Atlantis’ MAST DistrictAfter leaving Vectera and speaking with Sarah Morgan. She’ll induct you as a new member after speaking about artifacts and join you for a short time as you seek out more of the mysterious objects.
Constellation missions function comprise the main story quests, and you’ll need to complete them to finish the game.
What is UC Vanguard?

Heads to MAST Headquarters, the large building just above the sector’s transit line, and turn left once you go inside. Talk to Commander John TualaYou can also express your interest in joining Marines. Tuala sends you to the training hall to register in the system for an exam — you don’t have to actually take the exam — and a flight test.
There’s an optional museum area to wander through, and I strongly recommend stopping and interacting with each exhibit. These exhibits are where you’ll find most of Starfield’s important lore, and it adds some welcome context to your work as a Vanguard marine.
Pass the flight test at the end, and you’re officially part of UC Vanguard. Here, your path divides. You have two options: you can continue the Terrormorph storyline or contact Crimson Fleet and join UC SysDef.
Crimson Fleet – How to join

The Vanguard story must be developed beyond the introduction “Supra et Ultra”Mission to Unlock “Deep Cover,”The mission is what allows you to join the Crimson Fleet. “Deep Cover” puts you in contact with UC SysDef, who send you undercover to infiltrate the Crimson Fleet as an aspiring member. If you wish to maintain good relations with both the Fleet and SysDef, it is important to balance your actions.
Your bosses in the Crimson Fleet want you to do basic pirate behavior — murder and theft, for example — but that doesn’t go over so well with the United Colonies. This questline may require you to make important decisions before saving.
That said, the first quests don’t affect your standing with either group unless you blatantly go against their wishes. Although your companion is happy when you let Adler live and pay yourself, it will make him/her very unhappy if they are forced to do so.
Ryujin Industries: How to Join

Joining Neon’s premier corporation is a bit more straightforward, and you can do it pretty early in the game. Travel to New Atlantis’ Commercial DistrictYou can find GalBank by following the signs. There is a kiosk in the front of GalBank. It will ask you to choose whether to apply for Ryujin industries. Your answers don’t matter, in my experience, so just pick whatever.
Next phase of the project is underway Neon on Volii AlphaThe Ryujin Industries building is at the end of the street once you leave your landing area. You will find the Ryujin Industry building at the end the road once you exit the landing area. Then, head inside and take the elevator. Speak with the receptionist to find out where you are. Imelde, your new boss.
You are asked to pick up your first coffee order. However, a former worker ambushes you. You can try to persuade him against using violence, but there’s no downside if you fail and have to kill him.
Imelde will promote you to Operative status if you return to Ryujin. You’re now part of Ryujin Industries.
Freestar Rangers – How to join

Freestar Rangers are as easy to join as Vanguard. Joining the Freestar Rangers is as simple as joining Vanguard. Akila City is located in Akila, diffuse the situation at the bank — ideally without the hostages or anyone else dying — during the “Empty Nest” main mission. After, continue down Akila City’s main street and enter The Rock. Talk to Emma, a patron sitting at one of the bar’s tables.
Emma will give you a brief overview of the Rangers, and then ask you to do a test. You can choose one terminal from nearby. They’re all at roughly the same challenge level, so just pick the one with the highest reward.
You’re inducted into the Freestar Rangers after returning to The Rock.
Which faction is best in Starfield?

Which faction is best really depends on what you’re after. Which faction you choose depends on what you want. Freestar RangersThere are more do-gooders, such as those with more predictability in their mission structures. And the questline offers a wealth of information about the Freestar Collective and its people. The game also has a few hints at the Neon crime scene.
Ryujin IndustriesThe opposite is also true. The opening looks like a typical corpo mission, but the truth is quite different. Ryujin is involved in some very dirty dealings that go right to the heart of things. Starfield’s ideas of humanity and progress. These quests quickly take a turn for the dark. The quests are more complex if you’re looking to be an antihero than in the Crimson Fleet. (If you played Skyrim, joining Ryujin Industries is akin to joining the Thieve’s Guild from that game.)
You can also find out more about the following: UC VanguardQuestline is the game with most mission types. It has a mix of genres, objectives and more. It’s also a good way to get more insight into the conflcits that shaped Starfield’s lore.
You can also find out more about the following: Crimson FleetQuestline builds a great pirate fantasy. The search for a grand treasure is at its core, and the tension of balancing good behavior with piratical crimes (if you’re simultaneously doing the UC Vanguard quest), gives it a welcome sense of tension. This game sheds light onto the dark side of United Colonies, and the checkered history.
If you decide to play the Crimson Fleet, be sure to complete at least two of the missions. If you want to pass security checks, then the best way is by purchasing secure storage through their ship seller.
