It isn’t the first time that a new class of students has been created. Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis (PSO2:NGSSince its June 2021 launch. This sci-fi-themed RPG featured Braver (a bow-wielding, katana-wielding powerhouse) in August. In October, Bouncer blasted in on Jet Boots, with Soaring Blades, and in September, Braver. Waker’s arrival this week is quite unique. However, it will not be a class that has been present before. Phantasy Star Online 2 (PSO2).
Although it is less similar to Summoner class, PSO2The Harmonizer is the class’s weapon of choice, however, this class doesn’t coddle, feed, and otherwise act with animals. No, there’s definitely no candy box to manage here. Waker creates animalistic, photonic manifestations of death and destruction that are in sync with the fluid combat-style. Although it is not afraid of getting up close and personal with its enemies, this class can also do damage from far away. With both single-target and area of effect (AOE) damage abilities, Waker is as versatile as it is complex, and I’ll describe what I mean by that in the paragraphs below.

Like I mentioned, the waker uses the harmonic. By taking the skill harmony focus from their Skill Tree the Waker adds to the Focus gauge of the Familiar related to the Photon Art(PA) they use for damage to an enemy. In short, if you do some ground-pounding with a Wulfren-related PA, you’ll build the Focus Gauge of Wulfren. Ride Fredran into battle and mow down your enemies (yes, you can and it’s a PA called Fredran Riding) and you’ll increase the Focus Gauge of Fredran. Additionally, there’s a rather large payoff to building up their Focus Gauges in tandem, as you can then expend some of each by using the Class Skill Familiar Harmony, which unleashes them simultan. for some harmonious havoc.
While the idea may seem simple at first, the reality is that Waker can use all of these abilities. Changes when “charged,” or the button is held down for a certain period of time before release. Fredran riding, for example, is a normal ability that directs Fredran to shoot a wide range of shots at enemy. It’s when you can charge this ability that the magic happens. Then, enemies will be charging your winged friend. Fredran takes on the foes ahead when the PA is released.

Wulfen Demolition also has its challenges. Actions performed by familiars are affected not only by whether they charge for the ability, but also how you use it. How long? You can charge this ability. Wulfen’s shockwave attack is performed uncharged. Wulfen, who is charged for only a few minutes, will carry out his ground-pound. Aftershocks may also occur for some time in the vicinity. Charged for a longer amount of time, you’ll consume additional PP and Wulfen will perform a much stronger attack than his normal ground-pound. Waker only has these two capabilities, the other abilities are not as complex.
In addition, there’s another familiar that comes at the call of the Waker – Marmelo. Marmelo will double in size if you are able to deflect an enemy attack with your Weapon Action. You will need to hold the Weapon Action until release. throw Marmelo at enemies, causing an explosion upon direct hit. Finally, the Waker can also take the ability Treble Clef Marking from their Skill Tree – which causes Normal Attacks, after several are directed at the same enemy, to apply a “mark” that increases damage taken as well as Down Factor applied (increases the chance of a stun, basically.) The mark will detonate if you press and hold Normal Attack when targeting an enemy with Treble Clef markings.

The Skill Tree of the Waker has many other features that can make the game even more fun. You could find yourself driving into battle on a winged familiar and causing an earthquake. Or summoning two familiars simultaneously for tandem mayhem. This is not leisurely gameplay but is an absolute “blast” once you get the hang of it. If you’ve become quite fond of your current class but are intrigued by Waker, you should know that you are able to select it as a sub-class, however the benefits of doing so come mainly in the form of ensuring your survival, since many abilities rely on use of the Harmonizer.
If you’re not playing PSO2:NGSHowever, this is an excellent time to learn about the game (pun intended). To experience planet Halpha’s wonders for yourself, all you need to do is go to the Xbox Store or Windows Store for PC or console and get the free game.
