New Dune: Spice Wars gameplay revealed

Dune: Spice WarsShiro Game, the developer of Shiro Gaming has given players an opportunity to see its 4X-RTS hybrid gameplay at last year’s 2021 Games Awards. Dune: Spice WarsFuncom expects to publish the book in an early access version in 2022.

Shiro Games released a new trailer Tuesday showing exactly what it will look like to fight on Arrakis. It looks sort of like a sandbox RTS game — the sandbox being the exploring, expanding, exploiting, and exterminating that 4X games call for. This is a different approach to RTS games. Dune: Spice WarsIt is a single map that has all the players fighting, instead of multiple smaller ones. This is how players live in an inhabitable world, while they build their communities and infrastructure.

According to the trailer, there are three possible paths for players: political influence, subterfugee and open warfare. Of course, beyond all that, there’s Dune’s big old worms to watch out for, too.

Dune: Spice WarsLaunched with four factions including Houses Harkonnenen and Atreides, it will include four more. A fifth faction will be added in early access, with “more later,” Shiro Games said in an FAQ released in January. Both a multiplayer and single-player campaign will launch in the later part of early access.

Funcom, a publisher of Dune games is working to create an open-world survival adventure game.
