Based on Naoya Matsumoto’s manga of the same name, the series takes place in a world where monsters known as kaiju regularly cause disasters. Kafka, who is 32 years old and works for a Kaiju cleanup crew, has always dreamed of joining Japan’s Anti-Kaiju Defense Force. However he failed to apply in previous attempts. Kafka conceals his new powers and reapplies as a Defense Force member to achieve his childhood dream.
You’re in luck! The trailer is great. Rips! We get glimpses of life in this post-kaiju reality, including a great superhero landing by Mina Ashiro (Kafka’s childhood friend and the resident badass of the Anti-Kaiju Defense Force).
In between the scenes of Kafka and Mina are shots of kaiju. They are alternately fierce and disgusting (we can see the damage they cause, such as the destruction of entire buildings and the massive blood splatters). And of course we see the kaiju infect Kafka — it’s gross! It’s great! And it’s all a promising tease for Kaiju No. 8It is already one of the largest anime premieres in 2024.
