Watch the deleted Predator scene Prey’s director hated to cut

This week, 20th Century Studios’ breakout 2022 hit Prey The 4K Blu-ray version is now available. It might seem like a mile-marker for the blockbuster Predator reboot, but it’s not. Prey, it’s an unexpected twist — and for physical media buffs, it’s a glimmer of hope. The movie was originally produced and released on Hulu. Now, it’s part of the Blu-ray wave as Disney focuses on physical releases. The studio’s 4K summer slate has included everything from a Cinderella restoration to WandaVision. PreyThe latest edition to the saga is a deluxe disc with special features which were beginning to be lost in time.

Now out on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD — as well a sweet arty Steelbook — the PreyThis disc contains a Behind-the scenes documentary, an audio commentary panel, below-theline creatives and alternate openings. It also includes multiple deleted scene. Maybe that doesn’t put PreyThe pedestal is a great way to display the Fight ClubPaper-bag DVDs and all time-great releases of home video. But these days, it’s a nice gift to a film thought to be locked in the box of straight-to-streaming releases. Director Dan Trachtenberg told Polygon he never in a million years expected to hold a copy of his Predator movie tricked out with fancy box art, but it’s a welcome surprise.

“It’s super cool,” he said over the phone in September. “Who knows… if the cloud is destroyed one day when Skynet takes over, at least there’s some physical representation of something that I’ve made that exists in the apocalypse. The cloud could be used to throw as a dangerous weapon. [watch it] as entertainment!”

20th Century Studios released a deleted scene from the DVD to coincide with its release. It is a visualized version of an action sequence in which Naru (Amber Midthunder), would have faced off against Predator among the Great Plains trees. It was a scene that Trachtenberg didn’t necessarily want to cut, but also one he knew might not even fit in the movie he was making.

“The pre-vis sequence… I was so stoked on. “But I was concerned about [the treetop chase]It’s not a good idea to be too extravagant for the film. We had to be very precise in our execution to avoid it feeling silly, especially since so much of this movie’s action and story is grounded. Even though I was very excited for Naru to show up on the screen and I wanted that physicality of Naru, as well as that chase style, I felt quite nervous. It was a very smart thing that Naru did to use the clamp in that scene. So I’m happy that can exist now.”

Trachtenberg remains mum about any potential impact of the a Prey 2, he isn’t worried about giving away his best ideas on a 4K release. In fact, he wants to inspire new filmmakers with deleted scenes such as the treetop race.

“I grew up wanting to be a filmmaker, and wanting to know as much as I could about movies. And special features were an access point to that,” he said. “So having a pre-vis sequence, which is something we see all the time working in movies and TV, and that fans on the outside don’t get to see… I thought that that was really fun to be able to include on the disc.”

PreyThe movie is now available on Blu-ray and DVD in 4K UHD.
