Evo 2023 news, announcements, trailers, and character reveals recap

Evo 2023 (aka Evolution Championship Series) will be bringing the top fighting game players from around the world to Las Vegas for a 3-day tournament this weekend. This year’s Evo promises to be its biggest, with nearly 15,000 registrants competing across the eight games featured in its main competition. In the main competition, more than 7,000 people are competing. Street Fighter 6 alone.

Evo 2023 is not only the world’s most prestigious fighting game event, but it has become an important news event. Evo will be the place where publishers and developers, such as Capcom and Bandai Namco announce new games, characters, and release dates. Some of those details will be unveiled at the daylong Evo 2023 Industry Showcase on Friday, Aug. 4, but publishers are also expected to drop news after (or during) various games’ finals events happening throughout the weekend.

Project L

Riot Games’ fighting game based on the League of Legends franchise is playable at Evo 2023. Riot announced a new Champion for Evo. Project LYasuo is the Unforgiven. He’s one of four playable characters featured in a demo at Evo.

Under Night in-Birth 2, Sys.

French-Bread and Arc System Works, the developers of Melty Blood revealed their new game on Evo 2023 Friday. Under Night in-Birth 2, Sys.This is the sequel to the highly updated original 2012 Under-Night In-Birth. The 2D “light novel-style action” fighting game will be released in 2024 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC. This sequel includes rollback netcodes for online play.

As the high-school student and protagonist of the story Hyde, players assume the role as they encounter the mysterious Linne. His inner EXS power is then triggered to wake up. They join forces in an arduous battle to beat Paradox, the so-called “strongest user” of them all. However, an enigmatic force known as Kuon the Aeon appears and crushes the two victors, proclaiming his advent of the world’s end. This leads to Linne’s disappearance where Hyde, now determined to save their world from Kuon, ventures alone into the Night…

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2,

Fair Play Labs and Ludosity’s 2021’s Super Smash Bros.-inspired fighting game is getting a sequel: Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2,. While the developers and publisher GameMill have already revealed a good portion of the roster — a mix of old fighters and new — and it appears that even more of it has leaked, they’ll reveal more about the game on Friday starting at 12:30 p.m. PDT.

Mortal Kombat 1.

NetherRealm Studios expects to reveal more characters and gameplay in the future. Mortal Kombat 1.. Ed Boon, the co-creator of Mortal Kombat, teased a Reptile revelation, but past Mortal Kombat trailers suggest that multiple characters from Mortal Kombat’s history are likely to be unveiled.

It is important to note that the word “you” means “you”. Mortal Kombat Ultimate finals kick off Friday at 7 p.m. PDT, but don’t be surprised if NetherRealm sneaks out a trailer for Mortal Kombat 1.A bit earlier than that.

Street Fighter 6

Capcom releases the first Add-on Character for Street Fighter 6Rashid will be released in July just before Evo 2023. We already know who’s next: newcomer AKI, who is slated for release sometime this fall. Ed is the man behind the mystery of China’s fighter. Street Fighter 5The venerable World Warrior Akuma is scheduled for release in spring 2024.

Capcom’s Street Fighter 6Panel is set to begin at 3pm PDT Friday. So, we might get some good news then. Otherwise, Street Fighter fans may have to patiently wait until Sunday night’s Street Fighter 6Finals: a new look at characters.

Tekken 8

Bandai Namco is not shy about expressing its views on Tekken 8, confirming 16 fighters for the game’s roster and recently holding a closed network test. We’re still waiting on a release date for Tekken 8Tekken Project, the team behind this game could reveal it at Evo.

There’s a Tekken 8The panel will take place on Friday, April 13th at 4:00 PM PDT. Tekken 7Finals begin at 1 pm PDT Sunday.

Guilty Gear Strive

Guilty Gear Strive is the second-biggest game at Evo 2023, with more than 2,400 registered fighters, and Arc System Works isn’t done with the game yet. The third season of Guilty Gear Strive is in the works, a “large-scale update” that promises to usher in “balance changes for the entire cast, new battle mechanics, and new special moves for some of the characters.”
