City Update II: France
Here are some highlights of each city.
- Amiens, located in France’s northern region, is home to the Amiens Cathedral, the largest gothic cathedral in France.
- AngersAngers Cathedral, a towering cathedral in western France, and the castle with its white and black walls are both famous.
- NantesThe Castle of the Duchess of Brittany and the Loire River, located near the Atlantic Coast just west of Angers invite aerial exploration of the myriad of architectural displays.
- Nîmes, in southern France, offers an incredible collection of Roman-era architecture, including the Arena of Nîmes, an amphitheater that still hosts live shows to vast audiences.
- ReimsReims Cathedral, which is located about 80 miles north of Paris, has some of the finest examples of French Gothic architectural style.
Paris–Le Bourget Airport (LFPB), the landing site of Charles Lindbergh’s historic solo transatlantic crossing in 1927 in the Spirit of St. Louis and the current host to the Paris Air Show 2023.

Local Legend 09: Latécoère 631
Celebrate the rich history of French Aviation Microsoft Flight Simulator team is also releasing today Local Legend 09: the Latécoère Model 631, an all-metal, high-wing, six-engine flying boat designed and manufactured by France’s Latécoère Corporation. It is an aircraft that represents French pride. Model 631 was the first large and elegantly-shaped aircraft to fly in November 1942.
Model 631 was for many years the world’s largest flying craft. Only the American Hughes H-4 Hercules “Spruce Goose,” which flew just once on November 2, 1947, and the British Saunders-Roe Princess, which took its maiden flight on August 22, 1952, were larger. The Model 631 was the last great transoceanic flying boats to fly, and flew into the 1950s.
The Latécoère Model 631 will be available for $14.99 and comes with 16 liveries.
