Check Out The Gameplay Debut of Ubisoft’s Star Wars Outlaws

Today, Ubisoft decided to round out its showcase with a closer look at a game they revealed during the Xbox showcase yesterday – Star Wars: Outlaws. Kay Vess, the smuggler in this reveal video, is shown sneaking through and shooting at a galaxy so far away. Let’s take a look at the trailer.

Kay is trying to escape a dangerous situation when the demonstration begins. Nix, her axolotl companion can distract three guards while she kills the first one by jamming a gun butt in the skull. Nix is sent to push a switch to make a crate move so that she can hide behind it. The UI offers her a number of options, including targeting guards. This is a great way to show that a pet can be more than a face you want to cuddle.

Kay is quickly discovered and must shoot to get out of the mess she finds herself in. Kay is seen taking out alien gangsters while ducking behind cover and firing red, explosive barrels. She switches her blaster’s settings from “blast” into “focused” at one point to disarm a shield. After that, she escapes to her speeder for an action-packed chase sequence.

Kay enters a cantina and is brought up against an Imperial officer. The player is given the choice to bribe the officer or figure it out on their own – the demo player chooses to keep their money, pulling a gun on the officer and running out the door. Kay appears in every screen nearby, while the word “Wanted,” flashes on the screen with an ominous outline of red. Kay escapes to her ship and takes off into space.

But the gameplay doesn’t end there – Kay’s ship comes under fire very quickly, and she’s forced to dodge and dogfight her way around a squad of tie fighters in nearby orbit. The HUD also shows a variety of weapon choices and a button that activates the hyperdrive. Kay makes use of this and flies away from danger. At least for now.
