Alan Wake 2 gets two protagonists, dual stories, and an Oct. 17 release

The trailer may be cryptic but a blog post at the PlayStation Blog gives a bit more information about the game.Alan Wake 2Players can choose to follow two different stories in the same game. Both stories play into each other, with each one advancing and foreshadowing the other’s plot. The writer of one story returns, and the character in the second is completely different.

In Alan Wake’s portion of the game story, he’s still trapped in the nightmare he ended the first game in, and he’s trying to use his magic writing to escape.

Saga Anderson is also the protagonist of the game, a FBI agent investigating gruesome murders in Bright Falls. The first game took place there. As Saga and her partner investigate the murders, they begin finding pages of a story, written by Alan Wake himself, that seems to tell the exact narrative of the murders they’re investigating, with them as the main characters.

According to developer Remedy Entertainment, one of the goals of the game is to make sure anyone can play it, whether they’ve experienced the first part of Alan Wake’s journey or not. Remedy will be revealing more information in the next couple of months on how the new game might play out, and what other surprises players can look forward to when it launches in October.
