Sony Reportedly Halves Its PSVR2 Shipment Forecast Due To Disappointing Pre-Order Numbers

According to a report by, Sony has reduced its forecasts of shipment for the PlayStation VR2 headset that it will launch next month. Bloomberg

According to the publication, Sony’s forecast has been halved from 2,000,000 units shipped in quarter 1 to 1 million due to disappointing pre-orders prior February 22nd launch. Bloomberg reports that Sony has told a supply partner to prepare for a reduction in display panel orders, and PlayStation is expecting to ship roughly 1.5 million units between this April and March 2024. This expectation may change, however, if steam increases around PSVR2.

As for the disappointing pre-order numbers, it’s not surprising – would-be PSVR2 adopters have been vocal about the price point of the headset. Players will pay $549.99 for the standard PSVR2 retail package. This is higher than what they would need to purchase the PlayStation 5 console needed to use PSVR2. You will need to spend over $1000 if you do not have a PS5 but are interested in joining the PSVR2 community.

Plus, some players have been outspoken about their disappointment in the PSVR2 launch lineup as well, which includes many games already available on other VR platforms or games previously playable on PlayStation VR’s first iteration. The launch window lineup features more than 30 titles including Horizon: Call of the Mountain’s big-name first-party title. However, Supermassive Games’ The Dark Pictures VR was recently delayed, making it one of the most anticipated PSVR2 titles.

PSVR2 will be launched on February 22,
