Bayonetta Prequel Game Coming March 2023

Following Bayonetta 3’s October release, Platinum Games, Nintendo, and Nintendo today announced Bayonetta Origins, Cereza, and the Lost Demon.

Origins is a departure from the traditional series gameplay and visual style. It features cel-shaded artwork and an isometric camera angle. It was hard to get too good a grasp on the gameplay from the trailer, though it does look akin to the Viola chapters from Bayonetta 3 – where the player character’s combat actions are deemphasized over summons instead. Cheshire appears to be the summoner, which is indeed Viola’s sole summon from Bayonetta. However, it will be interesting to see if Origins does better.

Narratively, you play as a young Bayonetta – or Cereza, as is her actual name. Below is a trailer that gives an overview of the plot and shows the game in action.

Bayonetta Origins, Cereza and The Lost Demon will release on Nintendo Switch in March 2023.
