Call of Duty, Overwatch, and Diablo will come to Microsoft’s Game Pass
Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard entered its second phase today, which means facing the scrutiny of regulatory bodies from the EU and the U.K., along with the United States’ Federal Trade Commission. While this is all expected, Microsoft also put out a statement on Thursday detailing its intentions for Activision Blizzard’s biggest series, which includes bringing some of them to Game Pass.
In the statement, CEO of Microsoft Gaming Phil Spencer said, “We intend to make Activision Blizzard’s much-loved library of games — including Overwatch, Diablo, and Call of Duty — available on Game Pass and to grow those gaming communities.”
This statement was also made by Microsoft to reiterate something that it had said numerous times before: Call of Duty will still be available on PlayStation. Microsoft says that it’s committed to “making the same version of Call of Duty available on PlayStation the same day the game launches elsewhere.”
Microsoft supports this claim by mentioning its 2014 purchase of Mojang developer, as well as the fact Minecraft is still available across many platforms and devices.
Microsoft’s plans are now clearer than ever, even though the massive Franchises that were coming to Game Pass was one of Microsoft’s primary reasons for acquiring Activision Blizzard. The deal must be approved by all regulatory agencies around the globe before it can proceed.
Although the deal is still subject to scrutiny in the second phase, U.K. regulators are already concerned that Game Pass may limit competition.
