Some Neopets players are locked out after data breach
Some NeopetsUsers are now locked out of their accounts due to the data breach which allegedly affected 69 million accounts. The good news is that these players — which include me — have not been hacked. Problem is still more complex and affects an unknown portion of the population. Neopets players.
On Monday, the Neopets team made all users reset their passwords. This was a precaution to protect them from hackers. Jumpstart is the owner NeopetsFor years, posted an updated on the Neopets website and social media: “As a precaution, we are taking steps to protect users’ accounts, so when you next visit Neopets, you will be prompted to change your password,” the team wrote.
NeopetsPlayers who are experiencing problems are mostly users who don’t have access to their email addresses. Actually, I don’t know what my email address is. Neopets account is even attached to; I simply did not think to change the email address associated with my account because over the past few years, I’ve had no trouble logging in. It seems that there are many more people in this boat than you might think. They post confused pleas to help each other and grieve the loss of their accounts over social media like Facebook, Reddit and Discord. To put it bluntly, it’s a mess of confusion among worried and also furious players. Neopets, once an immensely popular create-a-pet website, has had a contentious relationship with players for some time — particularly, owner Jumpstart. People love each other. In other places Neopets’ Monday statement, the team noted that there’s no evidence credit card information was accessed in the breach. The team also wrote that the staff is “working around the clock” to add new safety measures. Jumpstart has one goal: multi-factor authentication.
