Horror game The Quarry creates a cast of compelling campers to torment
These are the protagonists Quarry These are delightful dipshits. These teens are a mix of fun and obscenity, crossing the spectrum between being playful and irritating. They range from shy bookworms all the way to exuberant teenagers. Riverdale-Insight drama queens. Some of these kids are a little more realistic, while others aren’t here to make friends — they’re here to start trouble or break hearts. Dramatic love triangles, secrets kisses and unrequited desire are all part of this world.
But they all have one thing in common: They’re here to get murdered. You decide how many of them will survive.
Quarry Supermassive Games, developer, is trying again to reclaim the magic of Up to Dawn, the studio’s teen horror debut from 2015, for its new multi-platform game. Quarry Many of its pillars are the same: an expansive cast of characters and slasher-film aesthetics. There is also an emphasis on player choice.
Here’s the setup for Supermassive’s new horror tale: Due to unexpected circumstances, the kids of Quarry have to spend an extra night at Hackett’s Quarry summer camp. The adults in their lives are oddly terrified at this news, but for the teenagers, it’s just another chance for an epic party. It starts out as an ordinary summer soiree, but it quickly becomes a wild ride. There’s Something out there in the woods, and it doesn’t take kindly to strangers. Add in crows, mysterious whispers, tarot cards, ’80s VHS technology, and rural tall tales, and it’s a recipe for a fun mix between camp and chills.
They are a big cast, so campers get along well. They’re also very proactive, which continually propels the plot forward. The characters aren’t reflecting on deep-seated traumaOder complex moral dilemmas. Instead, they’re making choices like Wouldn’t it be funny to swing this gun around? or There’s no reason to sit around like a bunch nerds, when you can enjoy a bonfire!
The teens — played by young Hollywood talent like Justice Smith, Brenda Song, Skyler Gisondo, and Ariel Winter — have simple problems at first, but things become more complicated when they have to focus on survival. That’s an easy dilemma to dive into, and it means the player has opportunities for choice. My character’s love interest is being horribly mauled. What should I do? A jock is swimming desperately to get a piece of equipment, and he’s running out of breath. Are you going to surface, risking losing your precious loot? Or do you stay under water with all the dead bodies and chains?
Because the cast is so large and overflowing with achingly dumb decisions, there’s room for delight in some of their terrible deaths. Supermassive’s Dark Pictures Anthology features a much smaller cast. It encourages players to safeguard them and protect them. QuarryIt is more cautious about throwing its members into the meat grinder.
QuarryIt is less cerebral than Dark Pictures Anthology which likes to twist its story with turns. Dark Pictures games have a lot to do with military conspiracies and childhood traumas. Even the most complicated interpersonal game is possible. House of AshesIt is much more manageable than. Quarry — there’s only OneRomantic conflict is better than a multitude.

These aren’t Marines or even adults with fully developed frontal lobes — they’re dumb kids, so many of the choices I had to make during my playtime were petty and silly. These small choices can be made in more interesting ways that will split the group and set the scene.
It is up to the player to learn how to play through dialogues and quickly-interact with other players. Do the teens be honest or are they evasive with one another? What happens when the teens split? Do they try to help each other or do they keep their distance? Is it possible for a survivor to climb a tree? Or should they concentrate on running through the brush and underbrush? There are many accessibility options that Supermassive added to make skill checks more flexible. You can adjust difficulty and demands of the skill checks by switching between different options. They can also be split into prompts that can take a few seconds or can go slower.
QuarryThe game will be available for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on June 10, as well as Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Windows PC. The game’s online multiplayer component, which will let a group decide the teens’ fates, has been delayed for a July 8 release.
