Replaced Is Delayed Until 2023, Studio Safety Prioritized In Wake Of Russia-Ukraine War

Remember Replaced, the atmospheric, futuristic action game revealed during last year’s Xbox Showcase? Set in a dystopian version of the ‘80s USA, Replaced chronicles the exploits of an AI living within a human body. This sci-fi movie is inspired by some of our favorite movies and video games, like Replaced. Blade RunnerCyberpunk 2077. Isn’t that exciting? Unfortunately, the replacement of Replaced was delayed to 2023.

Publisher Coastink, parent company Thunderful, and developer Sad Cat Studios’ statement on Twitter reads (in its entirety) as follows:

“Today we’re making the very difficult decision to delay Replaced until 2023.

Sad Cat Studios is a Belarusian studio that works on the game. It has talented developers from both Belarus and Ukraine. Due to the fact that most of the developers are located in neighbouring countries, it has severely affected the development of Replaced.

Sad Cat’s number one priority was to ensure the safety and well-being of their team members as well as their families. Sad Cat decided to relocate part of their team and have only just restarted work on Replaced.

To ensure the highest quality game possible, publisher Coatsink and Thundeful’s parent company, Sad Cat Studios, have moved the release date to 2023. We are continuing to work hard to match the quality you’ve come to expect from the trailer, but are prioritizing both the physical and mental health of the developers by not forcing the original deadlines that have been unexpectedly impacted.
