Do We Really Need A Bloodborne Remake?

Fans have requested a Bloodborne remake since the announcement of PlayStation 5. Bloodborne, which is now seven years old and a great PlayStation 4 title, shows how From Software can create terrifying, exciting games in Victorian settings. The summer is a great time for announcements of video games. Even though there is no E3 this year the rumor mill continues to spin at full speed, hinting at massive new releases that may be revealed over the coming months. Bloodborne is one of these games. You would ask me if Bloodborne was a remake of the original or a remaster prior to February 25, 2022 and I would have shouted “YES!”

Now, ask me that question and I will answer it a little more casually but with the same “yes”! While I was expecting big things from Elden Ring’s consistent developer, the whole Souls series would evolve in meaningful ways. Elden Ring’s exploration freedom, deep dive into its dark secrets, feeling of empowerment and ability to overcome great odds, are all remarkable and make From Software’s back catalog look timeless…even Bloodborne.

As we move forward, I expect more Elden Ring content. From Software will use it to help with future games. It won’t take long to go back to old Souls games, given their gameplay. They’ll be challenging and fun, I am sure, but they won’t appeal to me as much. This is not because I haven’t played them yet, but because Elden Ring has. That good.

Bloodborne must return with a new release, one that will be preserved for the future. The PS4 version looks great, so the need to improve it isn’t as important as for other games getting the rerelease treatment. It’s possible to expect smoother action at 60 frames per seconds and a DualSense controller that delivers better feel and movement. If any lost content is still available, we could see it restored. No matter the content of this rerelease, it is unlikely that any additional content will be created for it. Sony might create special Trophies for PS4 gamers and challenge us in order to enhance the game and possibly allow us all to experience it differently.

Video games can feel a bit harsh over time. It is a constant process of evolution, which can make seven years seem like an eternity, considering how fast games have changed. While Bloodborne will not feel outdated, it won’t be Elden Ring which is the current gold standard in Souls games. There are good chances that the development of Bloodborne will be done by another studio so From Software can concentrate on the next Souls title.

The remake is now a possibility for me. My thoughts of returning to Bloodborne are more a sign that I should start my second Eldenring playthrough.

Is there any excitement you have about Bloodborne returning? Are you concerned that Elden Ring will make it difficult to return? Or do you believe Bloodborne still has plenty of potential for greatness today?
