Sony disables PlayStation Plus subscription stacking ahead of revamp
PlayStation Plus will undergo a redesign in the coming months. It is a change that makes life a little more complicated. One thing that users have observed is the inability to add more time to existing PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now subscriptions. Now that they’ve been pointing this out in social media and forums, Sony has updated its FAQ to clarify the policy.
In the FAQ, Sony says that subscribers to either of PlayStation’s current premium services won’t be able to add time to their existing subscriptions, also known as stacking. However, the company also clarified that any vouchers or pre-paid codes that players may have will still work — just not yet. After Sony launches its next version of PlayStation Plus, these codes must be used.
One thing that’s a little confusing is what exactly these voucher codes will be good for after the transition. It seems that, because the pricing of the old plans and the new ones is slightly different, all of the codes will translate to different amounts and tiers of PlayStation Plus’ new service.
Instead of trying to explain it all, here’s Sony’s somewhat-helpful chart:
PlayStation Plus voucher conversions
| Voucher length | Non-subscriber | Essential | More | Premium |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Voucher length | Non-subscriber | Essential | More | Premium |
| 1-month PS Plus voucher | PS Plus Essentials for 31 Days | PS Plus Essentials for 31 Days | PS Plus Plus Extra 21 Days | PS Plus Premium for 17 days |
| 3-month PS Plus voucher | PS Plus Essential for 92 Days | PS Plus Essentials for 92 Days | PS Plus Extra for 58 Days | PS Plus Premium for 46 days |

Sony also wants current PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now subscribers to know that their subscriptions aren’t going away, even if the names are changing. PlayStation Plus Essential subscriptions for members with active PlayStation Plus subscriptions as of June 13th will be moved to them. These subscriptions work the same way as current services. PlayStation Plus Premium will also be available to players with active PlayStation Now Subscriptions. It offers all of the same benefits as PlayStation Plus, but in a premium version.
